For those coming here for the tl;dr redux version of what AC is doing, here is the latest and greatest.

On March 17, 2020, we received bonus eUgrade credits that are noted to expire on May 31, 2021:

S100K received 25 credits, E75K received 20 credits, E50K received 15 credits, etc.

And here is a recent update from jasdou regarding a statement from AC Altitude:

Also, while I'm indifferent to AC extending status, I hope they do something better for people who actually earn it. I earned 75K last year without trying, but I definitely would have pushed for SE if there were any benefits.

Maybe something like get 100k bonus MM miles if you earn SE or something like that.
OK, that would get me flying

I think the situation is vastly different in the US compared to Canada. Canada is at about 10% of prior levels with virtually no international travel whereas the US is back to ~60%.

Another bit of data to add....A short while ago, AC had just 18 aircraft in the air, 7 of which were cargo. I just checked again now, and they have 21 aircraft in the air, 9 of which are cargo. Think about this along with the other stats presented above. They all matter for AC. I am not sure where extending status or marketing offering incentives to spend again, rank in terms of importance for the company right now.

Also - the U.S. domestic market is huge and I would expect their Dom/Intl split to be much different than AC. AC relies heavily on Trans-border (probably as much transborder as all US carriers combined) and with border closures, AC is disproportionately affected. Canada's domestic market is large in terms of distance but the true number of real route categories is limited to around 5-10 transcon and regional routes. U.S. frequent flyer programs are predominantly domestic focused.

Then - add to that the fact that essentially only a very small fraction of AC's international premium customers can actually travel to Canada due to quarantine rules, it is a very different situation.

I just made my first trip to Canada - involving 1 month out of the office, a hotel stay, 11 more days isolation. This is not something that is feasible to do even once per year - let alone enough to make status. However, without travel restrictions, I would again make 4-6 trans-Atlantic trips per year on AC. But - if my status were ever reset - it again would make me just rethink travel - and perhaps just reduce to once per year or as needed. Almost all my trips are discretionary and so not traveling would always be an option.

Hot off the press - spoke with AP agent this am as my eups had not rolled over and he said they are behind on a few things, including the extension of benefits for Elite members through 2022 ! He had just read about it this am, but did not have any additional details to share.

Maybe that April 6 date will be the official announcement for 2022 also

Since the 2022 extension and incentives are pretty different to what AC did for 2021, the moderators have decided to give that topic its own thread, which you can follow here:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-...-rollover.html

We'll leave this thread open for any clean-up questions around the 2021 extension/incentives (e.g. people who have had trouble gifting the status they achieved in 2020), but please shift over to the new thread for any conversation of the 2022 extension/incentives.
