Key points of AC COVID change/cancellation policy [as of December 10, 2021]:
(see this page under "Changes and cancellations")

Unlimited changes. No change fees. – Until December 31, 2021, if you want to change your flight, we'll waive the change fee. After December 31, 2021, you can make one change at no extra charge. If your new fare has a higher price, you only need to pay the difference from your original fare.

If Air Canada changes the time of your flight, you make a change for free.*
*Within 3 days for North American destinations and 7 days for international and sun destinations.

If your flight is cancelled, you get a refund – If your flight is cancelled for any reason and we don’t rebook you on another flight that departs or arrives within three hours of your original departure or arrival time, or if we add a connection to your itinerary, you can request a refund.

Need to cancel? Save the value for future travel – If you need to cancel a booking, the full value can be transferred to an Air Canada Travel Voucher, which never expires and is fully transferrable, or converted into Aeroplan points with a 65% bonus. Refundable tickets are always refundable.

Flexibility with Aeroplan bookings – Until December 31, 2021, if you want to change your Aeroplan flight reward, we'll waive all change fees. After December 31, 2021, you can still make one change without a fee.

Like may as well throw your money down a well.

There has been a flood of intl AC fares ex-usa this week in the $300s and $400s for TATL/TPAC - very tempting pricing, until all the ex-USA pax realize most of these flights will fly, and youre not getting a refund.
I guess it's their new way of selling gift cards.

YVR-FRA got axed though. Guess there just isn't the demand with the Lufthansa flight as well.

The YYZ-NRT flight is an odd - must be something on the Japanese side.

I will believe South America when I see it. I'd be really surprised to actually see flights resume until 2021.

Is there now a known way to convert a COVID-cancelleation related credit to something like a gift card?

A friend had her flight YVR-YYZ cancelled in April. Some CAD 280 to her name. She is going to move back to Europe soon (no forseable need for AC flights) by using an AC flight pass, but she will have to pay over CAD 300 in checked luggage fees. She would love to user her flight credit to cover some of her luggage fees. Is there a way to get Air Canada to allow for that?

As it stands, no. That's essentially what the new system was supposed to look like, but the June 15th implementation date has long come and gone, so who knows how long it will take and whether it will be possible by the time she leaves.

That being said, presumably at some point AC will get it sorted out and she'll be able to get her gift card-type instrument for her $280. Even if she's no longer here, it's fully transferable, and I'm sure someone would pay her close to face value for it.

YVR-FRA is seasonal anyway due to the LH flight as you say. I think AC and LH share revenue on that route.

AC 15 & 7

Haven't flown since April 3rd when we came back to Hong Kong, with the 14 day quarantine in Hong Kong still in motion...
I booked yesterday a round trip to Montreal for September 7th, through Vancouver with a return on September 22 though Toronto.
This morning, I received an email from Air Canada stating that "part of my journey has changed due to Government travel advisory"...
So no AC 15 back to Hong Kong, but rather going through Vancouver with AC 7...
Also, the AC concierge in Hong Kong was very helpful, but she informed me that she is now the only one working, the 3 others having left Air Canada...
A very sad news, as they were all fantastic over so many years..

It is part of A++. I was returning on it the start of September and am now routed through YYZ.

Network updates today - lots of flights I would say are optimistic. Really don't understand the YYZ-NRT especially with HND resuming end of October and NRT carrying on until early 2021.

Is there any reason to think the routes to Australia will actually be open by the end of October, as AC is projecting? That seems fanciful to me, as I’ve heard nothing about them allowing foreigners to enter…

For the YYZ-CDG route, which days of the week are those “3 and 5 weekly” operating?
Yesterday, I received notification of my October flights changing departures times slightly. (The return from CDG is a bit earlier now at 10:15am), but the dates stick for now. (Departing Toronto on a Saturday and returning from Paris on a Tuesday)

SFO-SYD is flying daily.... purely an economic decision by AC to restart, or not (and steal the money of anyone booked on the flights)

YYZ-NRT and YVR-SYD are currently operated 3x/week by freighters.

Fill the belly with freight, add a few people upstairs and maybe AC thinks it's revenue will increase.

Toronto – Delhi eff 15AUG20 3 weekly 787-9 (4 weekly from 06SEP20)

Was not expecting this to occur next week.

Toronto – London Heathrow 1 daily 400-seater 777-300ER

Amazing that this has gone from 5 x daily to just 1 x daily.

Vancouver – Sydney Service to resume on 25OCT20

I was under the impression that Australia was more-or-less closed to international traffic for the remainder of 2020.

Toronto – Brussels New route to begin on 25OCT20, 787-8 operating

Been looking forward to this one, especially given that AC876 isn't running.

Montreal – Toulouse Planned new 5 weekly service from 04JUN20 cancelled

Given the current state of Airbus, I can see demand being severely hampered between the LFBO and CYMX facilities.

That one gets me every time. I expect we can pretty much directly trace the return to normalcy by tracking those YYZ to LHR flights. As long as there is only one, we are a very long way from normal.

There's no way that most of these routes will operate.
