Same Flight, Same Delay, Different Compensation Amounts

I recently submitted a claim for the delay and ultimate cancellation of a flight that resulted in a delayed arrival at my destination of 11 hours. I received a lacklustre reply from AC that focused on the delay of the inbound connecting flight I took which was irrelevant. I ended up being offered a 30% code as "goodwill".

This morning I was surprised to hear that one of the colleagues I was travelling with was offered $1000 and the other a $250 voucher. Both of them have no status either. I don't know if it's worth filing another claim or being persistent over email.

Another case of consistently inconsistent.

I'll give you $250 for the 30% off code

But I have no comment on your predicament.

I'd definitely take 30% off over $1000 cash though.

Ya, if I was one of your colleagues I'd be pretty pissed too. They got the short stick for sure.

Lol I love these replies! I have to admit, I would be pretty salty about missing out on the $1000 myself.

The only way 30% off would be worth more is if you were buying crazy expensive J fares (which I am sure some of you are )

For 30% to be worth more than $1000, your base fare would need to be $3333.34 CAD or higher. That's $1666.67 per person if you book two people.

That is not a "crazy expensive J fare".

In fact, for anything intercontinental, that's a "really cheap J fare". Not "crazy cheap", but definitely really cheap.

The % off is good for multiple people on the same booking.

It's not everyday that you find a transatlantic P fare below CAD 3500. So yes, some of us get good value from a 15% code. Come to think of it, I still have one lying around that I'll need to use. :-)

I just picked an arbitrary city pair and found $913 CAD round-trip, so I disagree.

But you can't always find those to the destinations you want and on the dates you want, which is where the discounts come in.

SFO-FRA.

Again, this is base fare (which is all that matters in this context).

YQ plus other taxes/fees brought it up to 2800.

I am sorry Cow, should have thought of it in very simple math terms

But if I were to calculate the derivative of that? Or use the Pythagorean theorem?

He should send a message threatening to book 16 people in J on one flight with the code vs. the moolah.

Absolutely incredible idea, but I feel like they would still prefer the revenues from that to the $1000 dollar payout.

1. I have never seen anything like it if from/to a Canadian city.

2. YQ and other taxes, almost CAD 1900? Really?
