Note that the T&C do not permit the purchase or sale of this benefit.
As to value, it depends on what and how much you are going to use the benefits.

- You can get some by buying the right Platinum credit card (Gets you priority access, lounge access and checked bags) - say $600.
- eUpgrades are "worth" somewhere between $20 and $50 each.
- Bonus Aeroplan miles are worth $.01 to $.03 each - so depends on how much they will fly in paid service
- shorter hold times is worth something if you call in. How much is your time worth?
- Free/reduced cost preferred seats - figure out the number of times this would be used. Perhaps worth $500

Seems inordinately sketchy to me and, while it may not explicitly violate their T+Cs, it would certainly not adhere to the spirit of giving this to "a friend".

Interestingly, I had never heard of this until last week when someone I know told me about a friend who had bought their status from an SE.
Saturday Night Live did a skit years ago about the person who wrecked it for everyone. I agree this is contrary to the spirt of giving it to a friend, so I hope this is not a trend that wrecks it for everyone else. However, I can also see an argument that says, "this is a benefit that AC gives me for flying 75,000 or 100,000 miles a year and I will use it to my benefit whether that is giving it to a partner (business or life) child etc. or monetizing it".
Let the debate begin.

There was a report on FT of an E35K being a short MR away from E50K, but ended up taking AC's $1000 buy-up offer.
So some people clearly value it at much more than $500.
But I wouldn't risk selling it or buying it. AC could shut down both accounts.

I gave my cousin my E50K benefit last year. he was flying a basic economy ticket from Europe to Canada. on the flight with him was 2 minor cousins of mine.
Because of this they each got to check a bag or 3 bags under his name. At $60 a bag it saved $360, now one of the bags was over the 50lbs you get for the $60 so it saved even more money.
The gold track at the airport saved the 3 of them 20 min each.
got the 3 of them into the lounge had a drink and some food. 3*$10
He was also able to book basic economy tickets to NY city and YVR. checked bags lounge accesses saved some money there.
In the 90 days he was here it saved the family $500 in bag fees, if we would have had to pay for bags I would not have ordered so much honey and jam from Europe.

I think the most value will come from an oil worker that has to book there own flights.
They fly back and forth for work every 2 weeks and now they can book basic economy tickets and still have lounge accesses and 3 free checked bags at 70 LBS/ 32KG.
The checked bag fees alone could save them a few $1000 a year,
There are people that pay the $665 MAPLE LEAF CLUB WORLDWIDE pass and that is included in the E50K benefits
So there is an idea of what it may be worth be every person is different.
