Not in the near future.
New Haneda international slots allotted to nine countries.
No love for Canada.

I wonder if there's any apetite to stay at NRT for them for this flight. I've been to tokyo a handful of times, but I don't know the city well enough. Is there any reason to WANNA fly to NRT? I've flown mostly to HND and quite like it, but I did fly into NRT once and it wasn't that bad, just took me longer to get to where I wanted to go.

1. Aeroplan availability only had NRT
2. I was transiting somewhere else
I'd never take NRT if I were actually going to Tokyo and not subject to limited availability.

Depends where one is headed in Tokyo. If headed to the northern areas, NRT can be more convenient. Skyliner to Ueno in under 45 minutes.

The answer has been given as "not likely in near future", but it's not for a lack of trying. My understanding is that AC has in past made several attempts to negotiate Haneda access, but the airline couldn't take advantage of the available window when Narita was having capacity issues due to the growth constraints placed upon it by resistant landowners, and Haneda was finally opening up to longhaul international traffic. AC at the time was struggling to survive and it wasn't in the position to secure the available slots. Some large Canadian airports had decades of experience serving Japan and excellent relations with their Tokyo counterparts (to help grease negotiations), but as mentioned, the airline had competing priorities and has since been usurped by rapid expansion from US and Chinese carriers.

Most major airlines seem to be moving away from NRT in the past few years! I always thought HND was predominantly used for domestic flights, but this has definitely changed!
And NRT is so far outside of Tokyo, HND is in a much better location.
But as others noted above, I think AC is only going to fly to HND from YYZ for the time-being.

The biggest reason for me to skip HND and go to NRT is cost. Sometimes the YYZ-HND flight (or reverse) is J4C4D0Z0P0 , whereas the YUL-NRT, YVR-NRT and /or the YYC-NRT flights are J9C9D9Z9P9... if you choose the HND flight, you will pay $5K-$6K each way, versus ~$2.5K one-way for the P fare through NRT.
HND does have favorable connections for me as I tend to go to Seoul and Taipei and I can get to the local airports (GMP and TSA) from HND, but NRT will force me into ICN and TPE.
For me, its the cost. If HND is on par with NRT for the days I want to fly, its HND hands down.
Of course to save money, I book the NRT option and usually try to do a SDC to the HND option.

There is absolutely no difference to me between NRT or HND whenever I visit TYO as it takes the same amount of time to get to my destination from either airport. As such, I usually base my decision on price.

If you don't need the short haul Asia connection options then the rail options in to Tokyo from NRT are good, and and as you said the price can be lower. I've done YOW - YVR - NRT before and it was no issue.
