I was informed again last evening at GRU by the concierge that there is still no workaround to process upgrades after t-24 and that the deficiencies in the systems will absolutely not be resolved before March as per an internal memo. March is optimistic she said.

They can do either if they're competent and willing to put in the effort.
As for my case, 45 minutes before check-in opened, I received an EF alert. J5 R3.
I cancelled my waitlist, and reapplied the upgrade, which was immediately confirmed.
I don't know if my email to the concierge had any impact here, but I'll take the win.
It's not letting me select seats though. It will, however, let me select seats for SFO-YVR-HKG that I already flew.

Just got an email from the concierge. So I suspect they did have a hand in getting R3 opened, but me and EF were faster to take advantage of it.
Thanks AC!

As family matter settled bit down so need to get to Rome for long-over due client briefing.
Just booked
Nov 30 YVR-YUL FLEX
DEC 01 YUL-FCO FLEX
DEC 03 FCO-YUL LAT
DEC 03 YUL-FCO LAT
"R" space available for 1st three legs, and Res. agent went away for while, and came back with "R' space for last leg.
And 1st leg booked less than 24 hrs. from departure.
I normally book J for this client, but with vast number of eupgrade points available, might as well save client some serious coin.
Will see how this ranks on the upgrade list??

Within North America, a Latitude fare can be upgraded using R or Z space. Internationally, R or P. But, as mentioned above, many agents don't know this. I had one very experienced agent tell me a couple of years ago it was impossible, eUps always came from R, and then she was shocked after she called NRD and they did it.

So it seems obvious that someone somewhere is indeed monitoring and pre-clearing requests.

This used to be clearly laid out in the AC website. It discussed using P and Z for LAT fare upgrades. But the page that had this info has disappeared. Maybe someone here has the link or saved this page?
