Wrong seat maps during check-in?

Hello,

Is there a known issue with AC's online check in displaying wrong seat maps?

I've had two transatlantic flights in a row where I definitely picked a window seat (from a 2-3-2 configuration) that turned out to be a middle seat (3-3-3). The first time they claimed a change of aircraft. OK.

The second time I paid particular attention and again picked a window seat from a 2-3-2 config. During boarding, it turned out to be a middle seat again. They said it was always that aircraft, and, yes, it is the aircraft type mentioned in my itinerary.

I fly quite a bit, but I don't memorize seat maps. I pick during check in, which has always worked fine. Until now. :-(

Which route, which flight, which day? Yes, these actually help in figuring out whether you actually have amnesia, or AC is punking you. :p

In Y, 2-3-2 is a 763, 3-4-3 would be any AC 777, and 3-3-3 would be 788/9.

Oh, and there are also aircraft swaps, which occur from time to time. And yes, these also occur at T-24.

Did your seat number change? In Y, across the wide body fleet, A and K seats will always be window.

Even when there is an aircraft swap days in advance, EF doesn't even necessarily capture it.
So you might see "788" on EF but then when you click to see the seatmap, it could show the seat config for a 777. This is often the case even up to an hour before the flight.

i don't understand A and K are always window seats no matter what so doesnt really make sense any aircraft swap would change that

It may if there are less rows on the downgauged aircraft, for example.

Real life: I was initially in 8A on a 763 but then was put into 3F on a 321.

Ah right missed saying as long as your in the same seat letter/number after the aircraft swap. yeah if you get your letter changed then yes you would lose your window

There ARE tools that will alert you unless it happens really last minute : https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-...-notifier.html

Though I'm working on that too after this past weekend.

I'm not sure if the seat number changed with the first flight. It did not change for the return flight. 24J - there simply were no K seats on the seat map where I had to pick my seat. The graphic showed a 2-3-2 configuration. I thought "sweet" and picked the rightmost seat.

Something goofy there. 24J is not a window seat on any AC flight.

Agreed... at first I thought the OP was alluding to a 763 J seat count of 24, but then s/he referred to the Y 2-3-2 config.

Could the OP be using mobile app to check in and select seats?
Sometimes the map is zoomed in. 3-3-3 will appear as 2-3-2. One has to move the seat map side to side to see all the seats

I did not use an app. I may have used the mobile website, but I think I used my laptop.

But, yes, it could be that the image was zoomed in. If that is allowed without being made apparent, it would be shockingly bad website programming!

Is there a way to play around with this, without having an actual check-in to accomplish?
