Confusing Bags Allowance

Can someone help me with the bags allowance? I have a YUL - YYC ticket, booked into Q class, the reservation desk told me that I can check in 1 pc 23 kg for fee, the 2nd pc would cost CAD 50. Then, when I asked whether I get an additional free bag as Star Gold from Asiana, one lady told me yes, another told me that only applies for Star Gold from Aeroplan. I remember some tickets now does not even have the free 1st bag as Star Gold. How many free bags am I entitled?

Thanks.

Q means nothing. Is it Basic, Standard, Flex, or Comfort?

You'll get 1 more than whatever is offered from your fare brand.

There is a calculator on the website
https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/...e/checked.html
you can input star gold status and origin and destination and see the official answer for yourself.

It does not list the Star Gold extra pc. If I have 1 pc free, 1 additional pc as Star Gold, and I check in a 3rd pc, would it be charged as a second pc as CAD 56.50 (according to the website calculator)?

How do I figure out whether it is Basic, Standard or others?

The calculator includes a place to say "star gold". If it says you have one piece, it means you have zero pieces for regular passengers, and the one free piece is due to your star gold status.
The calculator is actually very clear. You get zero bags in economy on that route, unless you are in flex, comfort or latitude.

So, the 1 pc free shown is the one from Star Gold? When I log in My Bookings, it shows as Economy Flex.

Economy Flex gets you one free bag. Your *G status gives you a 2nd bag for free. The third bag... I can't speak to that. Someone working at the airport may know better...

Oh, okay. Thanks a lot. That is really helpful. Yes, if the third pc is CAD 56.5, then I shall bring it with me instead of mailing it.

For Basic fares, do I get a free bag based on Star Gold, or, just the cabin bag is free?

No. You get one extra checked bag when you're entitled to a checked bag.
You can only bring carry-on for free in basic for *G

As a UA *Gold flyer who frequents AC somewhat often I feel I can provide some guidance here. For Domestic (Canada/USA) flights you get the following allowance as *Gold:
  • Economy Basic : No allowance
  • Standard : 1 Free Bag (23 kgs)
  • Flex/Comfort : 2 Free Bags (23 kgs/each)
  • Latitude / Premium Economy : 3 Free Bags (23 kgs/each)
  • Business : 3 Free Bags (32 kgs/each)
This information comes from the AC website on their various Economy offerings. If you are travelling internationally then things get more complicated as some destinations give you 2 free bags on anything other than a Basic Economy (i.e. flights to Oceania and most of Asia) whilst others give you just one (i.e. flights to Europe). It used to be that AC would allow *Golds to check in 3 bags as late as about 2 years ago but they have since "enhanced" that benefit.

In any event, ensure your frequent flyer number is inputted during OLCI or you show your digital/physical card at the priority check in counter to get your benefits.

Safe Travels,

James
