Because the old app was deprecated and we don't have a choice?

I don't find the new app remotely as good as the old. And the old was a pretty low bar to get over.

Hmmm, really? I'm at the point where I want to completely uninstall the app and just use the web browser.

I am of the opinion that everything is still in the development stage, and these minor kinks will be worked out over the next few weeks.

I am somewhat surprised that they decided to fully release the new app before the beta period ended.

I would have expected them to leave the old app there for the next two months at least.

I think it was necessary to support to move to Amadeus. If the move hadn't happened now, then I strongly suspect they would still be calling the new version a beta.

Based on my experience with the new app, it is very definitely still beta. A nicer UI but less or more difficult to use functionality.

I am familiar enough with development that if I look at the backlog of features required just to get to parity with the old app, I don't think it will be a "few" weeks. Several months, perhaps. As I said, the old app was pretty bad. It timed out constantly, couldn't cache data effectively, was susceptible to lag, and couldn't do a lot of things. But at least it did what it did with relatively few clicks.swipes, and was pretty logical/intuitive. The new app, well, isn't. The only thing that is an improvement is that it can (finally) seem to cache itineraries. But most other things are a hot mess.

I was able to add an existing AE flight to the app after I found out almost by accident from the AC web site that the booking reference has changed. :rolleyes: However there is absolutely no useful information or functionality to be found. Unbelievable!

From what I am seeing not only here on this thread and forum but across the internet it would appear that you are in the minority and most people,FF or not, who actually use the app, disagree with you and are not happy with the new iteration. As for working the kinks out...fair enough, but as has already been pointed out, there are so many kinks to work out to at least bring it back to the functionality of the previous app that it would apoear that this piece of junk was rushed out and forced on us prematurely.

No point arguing with the "this is the worst app ever" people.

App is useful, but not yet fully functional.

I did notice that the app kicked me out and require me to log back in a couple of times today. All of my res loaded again, including my AP res, but not my RBC Rewards res, which I keep having to re-enter whenever I have to log back in.

FWIW, I noticed that when using the app with US dollars, I was able to snatch AC YOW - LAS return for US$227.40, while the same AC flights were CAD$325.00 (still using the app).

Does it make sense? That's nowhere close to the current exchange rate.

Recent flight status searches will automatically disappear 4 days after flight day. Your November 18 AC101 will drop off on or after November 22.

Some great examples of "screw-ups of the first order" there.
This is just a few minor annoyances.
Flights were not impacted. The same cannot be said for the US/HP system migration. Or DL/NW.

I can’t seem to add existing booking on the new app. I logged in on the Aeroplan and also entering booking reference manually. The message says,

“Sorry, something went wrong!

An error occurred that we didn’t quite expect. We are temporarily unable to process your request. Please try again later. If the problem persists, please take note of the error message/number and contact our Technical Support Desk. (RetrievePNR - 1020) We’ve been automatically notified, and hope to address this issue shortly.”

anyone having the same problem?

This morning all bookings are missing from the app as well as boarding passes for today

You were able to get boarding passes for today? I couldn't even get that far; like Swiftler, I can't get today's booking to load, using either the old or new booking reference. My future bookings still show, though..

I've checked in online but don't have access to printing (nor can I get it to load on my phone) so I'll have to get my boarding pass at the airport.

Ok... this new app is garbage. Nothing appears to work very well at all. Couldn't do check-in -- much less get my boarding pass. I ended up doing check-in on the web and sending the boarding pass via SMS. What the hell AC?

Not yet. The functionality was also removed from the previous version (4.x) of the software as part of the single Aeroplan login integration IIRC. There are posts about it in another thread, https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-...l#post31565713

Just checked in for a flight tomorrow and everything went smoothly, with one exception. Selected the option to receive the boarding pass in the app, so far so good. But the previous version would allow me to add the boarding pass to my Apple Wallet. That doesn't seem to be available in this version.

Added: A little further digging and I found it, under the More link in the very bottom right corner. As I previously reported, this app doesn't seem to have been coded for the iPhone SE screen size, so getting the More link to work required some very deft touch.

Press “more” in the lower right hand corner of the app BP and there is an option to add it to your Apple Wallet.

So experience yesterday / today so far with the app / Amadeus (which thread does this go in?):
  • I was only able to OLCI for the first leg of my trip, not the second (YYZ-YOW) of my trip. Even using YYZ as the starting point to try and get the second BP it was not working.
  • When I saw the SE check-in agent, she said that I was in fact checked in to both flights despite the app not showing me checked in for the second flight.
  • My TSA Pre was gone, no way to add it back during OLCI in the app, but the SE check-in agent at LAX was able to add it back in.
  • I ended up with printed BPs for both flights in person, with TSA Pre, ITD OSS, and everything as it should be. I just couldn't do those things with the app.

I also own this marvel of engineering and this may also explain why there is so much text overlap between some of the origins/destinations. Nice to see that AC's brief to whatever app developer there are using excluded my device as a target.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

You do need to add your KTN to your profile in the app. It won’t pull it from any external source. That should restore your ability to get precheck automatically. If you already did this... well the app is messed up. :)

Just an edit to add: the app is screwing up date of birth. Who knows how or why (if I had to guess I think they have transposed the month and day fields). Which means that even if you have the KTN right, you won't get pre check. So make sure the date of birth fields (which should be auto-filled) are in fact correct. Took me a few tries, but with that I was able to get the app to check me in an get pre check.

Hi everyone, I just want to share the information I just received from the Air Canada IT department.

Any Air Canada Vacations booking before November 19 will not show up on the new Air Canada App. The AC IT are unable to confirm as to when it will be available again. If you call ACV with your original booking reference, they will give you a new one.

However, direct booking via Air Canada will no problem showing up on the app.

I booked an ACV on 16 Nov and it is in the new app with out me doing anything. I fly YYZ-CUN 13 dec CUN-YYZ 20 DEC.
