Question: Dis-/Advantage of Revenue Booking vs Award Booking (through GOL Smiles)

Dis-/Advantage of Revenue Booking vs Award Booking (through GOL Smiles)
Haven't booked any AC ticket for ages so I was wondering if there is any advantage or disadvantage in booking a one way FRA-YVR in the cheapest fare class (LH Codeshare on AC) vs booking an award ticket on the same flight using Gol Smiles.
Thinking about restrictions regarding baggage, seat reservations or a possible bid for an upgrade to PE/J.
