Important Event Notes - FAQ

  • Wasn't this in December last year?
Yes, but in previous years it was in September, which, let's be honest is much more "fall" than early December, despite what the idiot who hosts this thing wrote last year.
  • Will the YYC Fall Do offer superior dining and beverage service?
Yes. The restaurant has a very long whisky list and the best burgers in town. You can savour a sit-down meal from the ŕ la carte menu crafted for the Do.
  • What if I like hockey puck beef?
Then you're a weirdo, but I guess you can ask them to do it.

Important Event Notes (real ones this time!)

  • The burger and Scotch theme is purely optional. Those are the specialties of the restaurant, but you're free to have a salad and a diet Coke Zero, fish and white wine or whatever floats your boat.
  • [UPDATED 26/9]: We will have access to a few of the restaurant's recent Whisky Wednesday tasting menus which offer a flight of 3-4 whiskies at a reduced price. For past Do attendees, this is the same as previous years.
  • The Do host has not achieved Dorian's level of wealth and generosity. No T-shirts or other swag will be provided. Unless yyznomad shows up with some of his headphones and other goodies.

I'll try to confirm with the bovine&calf, but I can't see us making a night flight on Friday due to flight timings (AC 8590 1855-2234 is the only sensible option). Still not sure whether there would be 1, 2, or 3 of us though.

I have an event in the morning on Saturday so I could do a flight in the mid-afternoon, say 2:30pm (2030 UTC) if that would work? Alternatively (or perhaps in addition to), I would entertain a night flight on Friday. Could we add a section to the Wiki for who would be interested and what days work? As mentioned, I would likely give priority to any out of towners since anyone in YYC can tag along any time.
I'm game for a Friday night flight, as I suspect is my wife, but if you're willing to go flying another time and there are out-of-towners looking to get up in the air with you, also happy to wait my turn another time.

Dang. Wish I was in town for this one and not in the bustling metropolis of Irving, TX that night. Would love to meet you all.

Have a great time, hopefully see you at the next one.

No, QYH is on it's way to Burning Man with one of the other owners right now.

Okay the bovine and calf are confirmed, so all 3 of us are coming.

Looks like I need to buy another 2 person FP (I just bought one for the YVR do). If UA timing worked better we'd piggyback on the GS, but alas, it does not.

And I used to think that BSE stood for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy when it really stands for Bovine Super Elites. I've learned something today.

Of course, the Mad Cow label may still be apropos....

Not looking good. I am currently working the 28th, but I have "selflessly" offered to work one of the much busier weekdays I was given off, in exchange for the Saturday off. (Having two of us working a Tuesday or Wednesday really does make more sense.)

hmmmmm, a certain nomad told me he recently sampled the Glen Breton at your place, and was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted...

Edit: Same with Thursday. What the heck is going on?

Jazz has cancelled a bunch of flights in/out of SFO for the last three or four days. My AC pilot buddy tells me it's directly related to the SFO runway closure and that they start by denying the smaller jets first (since they carry fewer people) so Jazz and their CRJs end up taking the hit. Perhaps this means that everything else is overbooked for the foreseeable future?

Is it truly unfathomable to fly in Y? Even if there's an aerial tour of the Rockies waiting in YYC?
