Why would they?
It costs AC a bit of money with the cancelled flight and stranded pax, the rescue flight and not to mention crews, HKG staff and so on.
And, I just looked at the next 7 days on AC 7 YVR-HKG. Y is almost completely full each day except for the Preferred Seats and we don't know how many pax are GTE. J is pretty full as well. PE is hit and miss.
For the couple of days last week or earlier this week that had some nice empties in J, I'm sure those upgrading were happy along with some non-revs on passes.
If this situation in HKG had continued, it might have been better for AC to cancel a flight or swap aircraft than sell cheap seats.
Just guessing.

There's over 40 seats in Y tomorrow. Fewer in Y on the 16th, but still ~40 on the flight. Same with the 17th.

Ok, but my other points may be valid as well. If AC really thought this was going to be longer term and impacting the ability to fill cabins, they might have done what they were doing for quite a while on some of the the PEK and PVG routes, where prices - especially for J - were extremely low.

I read it and I saw the other guy's post as well. Perhaps you're right. Although I'm crossing my fingers that AC will blink and start discounting the seats.

I too was in mainland China not too many weeks ago. It never even crossed my mind to be nervous. I'd still get on a plane and go there today, except my employer just put it (and HK) on the travel ban list for Canadian employees yesterday. Interestingly, the ban is not in effect for US employees.
Any other data points from people that have seen their employer do some kind of ban of this kind?

Turnaround without leaving the airport to avoid not being able to get back to the airport.
Maybe the ex-USA fares on AC to HKG may go even lower than $400.

Nah, I'm done for AQD and as per my post in the other thread, close to 200K AQM.
But this looks like fun
C'mon, we can go back to the SQ lounge in HKG and have more bubbles and Slings.
($695 for those who use loonies)
