30 minutes to touchdown

I did a quick YYZ-YHZ turn today and noticed on both flights, an announcement from front of the plane

"flight attendants, 30 minutes to touchdown"

New SOP?

I also noticed this on YYC-YYZ and YYZ-YUL (mainline) yesterday. Maybe it's to prevent an unsecured cabin for landing. What would be the procedure on a flight < 30 mins

Ha! Glad you posted. Heard it for the first time on the 4 sector trip last week. Always loved how SQ does it. I think it helps AC crew with timing and I like it.

I noticed this last week too, and maybe week before. Seems like a pattern may be forming.

I had a 30-minute announcement on LHR-YYZ, followed by a 25-minute on YYZ-YOW. So perhaps it does decrease slightly on shorter flights.

Easy explanation - it's Summer so it's football season.

In the Winter, it will be 30 minutes to icing.

Heard a 25 minutes announcement on YOW-YYZ as well yesterday on mainline. I suspect due to different SOP, no such announcement on QK YTZ-YUL

I also noticed it on my last 6 YYC-YVR runs, all since July 1.

I also noticed this new gem started at the same time, shortly after every takeoff (paraphrasing): "Smoking is not allowed, and Air Canada forbids vaping. Also, you are not allowed to drink your own alcohol that you have brought onboard with you."

Makes me wonder how many incidents of people drinking BYOB they have had.

Yeah, the drinking one was new for me too recently. There must have been some 'incidents' on certain flights (involving duty free?).

Well, there were those lovely Russian girls who opened their BYOB from duty free, were drinking and smoking in the lav, and then got into a fight. Not AC but AC must know the behaviour is not limited to flights on other Canadian airlines. We heard it on each flight as well last week.

(PDS - Pre Departure Speeches, lol, are getting longer.....Skytrax Titanium awards for AC plus what to do if phone falls into seat, plus no drinking of your purchased alcohol....)

I’m sure that I’ve heard the drinking one before on more than one occasion, but that might have been on my many trips to Vegas (where drunk passengers are not uncommon).

I think that announcement is standard on all flights leaving from YMM (oh, and Cancun as well)

Well, any airline flying low cost out of the UK should make announcements like that.
