tricky connection at Logan

Hi I could really use some expert advice here: I am flying BLQ-MUC-BOS with Lufthansa on July 12 and am supposed to arrive at Logan at 6:25pm, in Terminal E. I would really, really like to get to Toronto that night. Air Canada has a flight at 8:35pm. Which *sounds* ok -- but I figure transatlantic flights are mostly going to be an hour late or so, and then I have to change to terminal B and, I assume, go through US immigration *and* security again, right? So to me that sounds very tight. Porter has a flight at 7:55pm, and it seems like that might actually better because it'll be Terminal E, which should mean I don't have to do security again or immigration (right?). But it's still very tight if the plane is at all late. So, which do you think would be a better bet? Also if I could get Air Canada on the phone (no luck so far), would there be any way to get them to link a new BOS-YYZ ticket to the old Lufthansa ones, since they're partners, and be protected?? Thanks for any info/advice!

US airports are generally not setup for quick connections off international flights. Your going to have to pass through US customs and immigration exit landside then go through US security again with either Porter or AC.

Air Canada has its own gate area (not shared with any other airline) in Terminal B that may be a bit better. There is also a bus ride between the two terminals your going to have to do.

I would not do this on a separate ticket. On a single ticket and paying with a credit card that provides flight delay insurance, I would.

I assume you have looked into the cost for changing this for the direct flight from MUC - YYZ? Current pricing looks quite similar.

This is not a connection as you will be travelling on separate tickets. If you don’t show up at the gate in time for your flight to Toronto, the ticket will auto-cancel. Without GE I would leave myself at least three, better four hours between flights.

As this is not a connection, my standard advice is to allow at least 2-3x the MCT as a rule of thumb. For a connection, there are simple ground logistics. For a transfer between tickets, the issue includes everything from weather to mechanical to immigration issues on the inbound. If OP is a no show for his AC ticket, it will be cancelled and will retain whatever value if may under its fare rules. Likely $0.

Travel insurance rarely covers no shows across separate tickets. Check your policy carefully.

As noted above, it may well be just as well to change to the nonstop to YYZ. If not, I would book a room at BOS and take the first flight up the next morning.

Apparently not anymore. As of today (?) the AC security line is gone, you now use the security line that AA shares at the other end of the terminal, and walk back airside past all the other B gates. Or so the concierge related to me in an email warning me about the change; I haven't actually seen it myself yet. I think it likely will make things harder for the OP to connect same day unless they have pre-check and walk really fast. :)
