Pretty major crew constraints at Jazz over the past few days.

If you see a Jazz cancellation and the cause isn't otherwise apparent, it's very likely a Flight Ops staffing issue.

@YYZC2, I think there's a mistake in your last post, so I've tried to fix it

Sad. Gives new meaning to "Don't fight the fed."

Love this:
"This flight is delayed due to additional flight preparation time needed for the aircraft that is scheduled to operate your flight."

I'm enjoying this. More fun than grade 4 math.

What's with all the flight delays?

Travelling tomorrow from IAD to YYZ for the week. First time back into Canada to see the fam since the pandemic started...

Noticed that several of the flights (over the past few days) have been delayed. Reasons stated on the website say ground handling taking longer than normal (for the flights leaving YYZ headed to Dulles). Is there something going on at YYZ like staffing shortages or something? I know the weather has been bad this week but not so far today...

The weather today has been crappy in southern/eastern Ontario and upstate NY. Perhaps your delay could be related to a ripple effect caused by weather even if the weather where you are is fine at this very moment.
Either that, or AC is back to post-pandemic operations.

FWIW

for 7703 today, ac.com says
This flight is delayed due to an operational issue from an earlier flight which is causing the aircraft that is scheduled to operate your flight to arrive late.

@littlea905
There is also discussion of various delays over the last while in another thread, which may also still be affecting flights

Hi Everyone

Was stranded at YYC last week as flight was cancelled due to "crew restraints." Heard from staff that Jazz had retired lots pilots and there were cancellations all over the place as a result.

Got out the next day.

There are some staffing issues that are beginning to show face. Gate agents, ramp, tow crews, pilots, flight attendants. To top it off, YYZ restrictions for customs and security further exacerbates the problems. Does not appear the spool up of operations is going swimmingly

QUOTE:

"The GTAA’s capacity metering program, said Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick, means passengers are deplaned in groups of 50 every five minutes once an aircraft arrives at the gate.

“While some delays were lengthy earlier this summer, there have been some process improvements to expedite things and this has reduced the frequency and length of these types of delays,” he said, including orders to keep the aircraft air conditioning system functioning after planes arrive at the gate.

Since air conditioning systems on airliners rely on bleed air from an operating jet engine to function, this requires pilots to keep the aircraft’s APU (auxiliary power unit,) a small non-propulsive jet ‘engine’ located on the rear of commercial aircraft, operating after they leave the aircraft.

Incredible! Has YQB been cursed? Last Friday and Saturday were a mess, another mess today…

7469 delayed; 7473 cancelled; 7477 delayed; 7479 delayed. AC is 0/4 on YQB-YYZ.
