Computer sees blank space, fills it in with nearest geographical feature in the database. (shrug)

Too funny.

Although maybe it's the seamounts occasionally hurting my hip when I fly TATL/TPAC and not the rumoured deflated seats.

But I'm glad you said 'small' antenna - my ADS-B antenna is overall 66cm long.
How would it be illegal? It's a computer.

It's a computer that doesn't look like most people's image of a computer.

Also, it has an antenna and this is an RF device with no obvious type certifications. And most of them look like science projects with at least two cables and a brightly coloured dongle. Stuff like that would look 'interesting' on an X Ray.

If it were me, I wouldn't risk the hassle but let us know how it works out if you try.

The easier solution might be to simply purchase WiFi, open up FlightAware Pro on your laptop / tablet and have at it.

I routinely take a window seat, connect to wifi, load up FR24 on my laptop, and that will be my entertainment for the balance of the flight.

My question is whether they will ever fix the erroneous population figure for New Delhi.

I can use some lat-long lines over the ocean. Yes I fly window but when on a 787 I can only know where I am from that very imprecise moving map.

Don't those ADS-B receivers depend on having a known, fixed location (including altitude) for proper calculations (esp. MLAT)?

I echo what was said below: window seat and fire up your favourite app. I find FR24 works nicely, and it's cool to see the lag between your phone's GPS position and the indicated position of your flight on the map. Sometimes it can be off by a mile or two, surprisingly sometimes not.

Speaking of GPS, I tried Many times to log the route and speed/altitude data but I never seem to get the GPS working on a flight, not even on the ground.

I like when the maps show me the sites of old shipwrecks so I can appreciate the safety and speed of flying across the oceans.

If they can show something dynamic, a weather layer would be nice and useful.

As for shipwrecks, imaging they show the same map on cruise Or perhaps on cruise ships they will show a map with aircraft crashing sites

It can be sketchy sometimes and you will most certainly have better luck if you are next to a window.

Yes, but you wouldn't be getting MLAT correlations anyway way over the ocean. Unless there's people in other nearby flights doing the same.
