What is "Proactive Compensation"?

Changed my flight and on the receipt is the following:

Ticket particularities:
GBP969.00 NONREF-BG:AC
PROACTIVE COMPENSATION


Does anyone know what "Proactive Compensation" means?

"Proactive" - are you sure you are flying with AC?

Right. My guess is, it's compensation that one did not ask for. Maybe not real compensation but waiver of the change fee and fare difference? Which they call compensation... Very generous of them isn't it?

Was a 737Max involved? Perhaps that's a way that AC staff have been instructed to do changes in such circumstance, so they can tally it all up and present it to Boeing for compensation, ie: the cost of replacement flights for passengers affected.

737 not involved and unfortunately a change fee plus hefty fare difference was charged

Yes, the words proactive and AirCanada donít generally go together.

your presumption is reasonable, but are you aware for a fact that the AC Ė Boeing contract provides for compensation in the event of government action?

The Minister indicated new information warranted precautionary action, so this does not make BOEING culpable, just yet.

and whether the MAX purchase contract includes language to protect AirCanada, be interested to know your view of the state of affairs.

could lead to a lot of erroneous beliefs by travelers and even AirCanada staff, if compensation is not certain, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
