Aeroplan award changes; Booking AC J and changing to LH F later
hello we are hoping for Lufthansa first class return award ticket. Since Lufthansa does not release first seats until 14 days or less before travel, we want to book an AC business return ticket yyc-fra and then change it to a Lufthansa first return a few days before flight if available. What is the cost of this? Anyone successful doing this?

The poster may have a sticker shock on the YQ flying LH F, should be much higher than the AC YQ.
Whether it is worth to pay a very high scam fee to fly the LH F on less than 9 hours is highly subjective.
May be OP should do some research on this idea such as doing an ITA dummy booking to see how much $$$$ would be on the LH YQ.

If flying AC YYZ-FRA and then LH J or F onward, YQ is still high if non-SE

Not sure if my case was different this past Dec 2018, but I changed 3 days before my return flight from originally
SGN-BKK in J via TG
BKK-HND in F via TG (new 747 with 9F seats)
HND-ORD in F via NH
ORD-YYZ in J via AC
To:
SGN-BKK in J via TG
BKK-LHR in F via TG
LHR-MUC in J via LF
MUC-MIA in F via LF
MIA-YYZ in J via AC
Before changing the flight, I was under the impression as long as you have paid the original YQ charges and have flown your 1st segments, then after that no matter which airlines you decide to change to even with higher YQ, they will waive that and just charge you the change fee. Anyhow, I was charged $84.75 for change fees, another $54.90 for difference in new flights, but they also refunded me $30.70.

I assume LHR was only transit so you get away from the APD.
