If anything, I suspect denied boarding is a drop in the ocean compared to IRROPs and the number of angry passengers AC has to deal with on a day to day basis.
Minor clarification ... the AC quote was not that "only 1% of passengers are denied boarding" - they said that it's less than that. From the link you posted, AC said:
Overselling is very carefully managed and… accounts for less than 1% of passengers booked with only a fraction of these resulting in denied boarding.

I got in trouble once for saying "over one hundred million" when a reporter took it out of context to mean "one hundred million".

The real number was in the range of 100-500 (per publicly accessible data), and represented a slightly different metric than what the reporter claimed.

But that "over X" or "under Y" can really trip people up.

Though if the real number is "0.00001%", it's probably not a good idea to say "under 1%".

Numbers don't really mean much. People don't understand statistics anyway. Even statisticians.

What matters if how much should be allowed or is reasonable. I'd say if there were no seatbelts <1% of vehicle passengers would die annually. So why are seatbelts mandatory?

Sounds familiar. I complain about AC often and go out of my way to avoid them. Unfortunately, when there are no viable alternatives every now and then I'm reminded of why I dislike them so much.

The key is to take advantage of the things they do well (I.e. showers at most MLLs) whilst avoiding the things they don't do as well as others (I.e. flights, the chiropractor's special J seats on widebody)

Hey I was never crushed by that. I helped prevent an MLL employee from getting crushed.

I'll take that as a compliment. Down ~25 pounds in the past 13 months.

Oversold flight today from YYZ to BOS, AC offered $200 flight voucher + take a later flight

Don't think anyone budged...when I boarded they were still looking for someone.

Are AC gate staff enabled to increase offers as they see fit like UA/AA/DL staff are?
Or will they get in trouble, if they, say, offer $201.
