An update.

Duct tape, spray can paint job and...no water in the lavatory sink.

Not to mention that the legroom in the bulkhead sucks.

"Why did they put such a nice A321 on Rouge?"

I think the bigger question is, why do we keep putting such nice people on rouge???

The A321s with the big winglets are a lot newer than their other equipment.
AC 320s are probably the oldest in the world still flying.

Not quite. There are 3 other A320's operating that are older:
Jordan Aviation, built May1, 1989
Global Aviation, built April 25, 1989
Kulula, built Aug 6, 1989
Then AC C-FDQQ built October 27, 1989.

One of them (Fin 201) is indeed the 3rd oldest active A320, but Lufthansa's fleet is generally older. Air India and a smattering of smaller South African carriers still operate some earlier models, but AC's fleet is right behind them.

Almost. There are few older still flying, but no too many. After all, C-FDQQ is MSN 59 of 8470 (I know, that includes other variants).

it was a brilliant move to get far, far ahead of Westjet.

The mainline 321s donít seem to be going anywhere for a while with them having been 100% repainted and taking a prominent role on the Uber-busy YVR-YYZ route. If anything, they may well go to Rouge.
