This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the original 2004 - 2014 thread , 2015 edition, 2016 edition , 2017 edition and 2018 edition.
The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues, status or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs, destinations, in-flight travel tech. or anything best discussed elsewhere on FT may be relocated to that forum as this thread isn't meant to import travel topics to this forum that are better discussed on other forums. FT is an amazingly diverse and large community so members are encouraged to seek out all of its resources.
While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply here as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

I've owned Windows, iOS, and Android devices, and I've never had one that could last anywhere near 24 hours with my usage.
I don't even think I can do 16.

My Samsung is about a year old. Frustratingly, the battery barely lasts 24 hours now

Annoyingly I still prefer overall usability of the Apple over the alternatives. And without actual usage it’s not too bad except when it went from 49% to 1% once. As in I was plugging it in and it said 49% then flashed up low battery and showed 1%.
But when I first got it it could last two days and there wasn’t exactly much higher usage. Lower usage today tbh. But no matter what you are doing in a phone (audio thru browser in my case) 9% in a minute is just crazy.
I’m wondering if it’s just the % that is busted though as it stayed in 31% for a while. And shot up to mid 60s charging in the car for maybe 10 minutes.
Either way I blame the company. It’s definitely a design intended to force people to buy a new phone every few years.

So turns out my fighters have had an escalating argument for some weeks now. Very personal in nature so I will leave it at that. They assure me this was the first time it came to blows. As the conversation unfolded though, the contrition seemed to fade and the frustrations bubbled up.
I don’t believe for one second it can’t or won’t happen again. I’m an honest and direct man so my parting words to them were “this idiocy probably cost you both your jobs”
They got physical, clipped me, and did so with multiple witnesses. I was prepared to let them self-report and support them with HR. If I told HR “don’t fire them” they very likely would not. I was open to an apology to all those present etc. After my conversation with them, I am prepared to let them feel the full weight of consequences.
I am glad I did the beer. Now armed with the details and having witnessed the dysfunction, I will not feel an ounce of guilt if they get escorted away. Had I gone direct to HR it would have haunted me.

My XR goes 16 at an absolute max but I am an atypical user. I have colleagues with this phone that go 48 without a charge.

Nah. When my kids want to get physical with each other I just tell them to clear the floor of any toys that might hurt them should they fall.

Wow.
Well, thanks for the report. Here's hoping that's something I don't ever experience.

No, poorly worded on my part. I was summarizing the actual event and justifying my reasoning for throwing them both under the bus.

My old iPhone 5 lasted more than 5 years. At the end the battery can barely makes 16 hours.
I am not sure how long my new XR can last as the battery hasn't gone to 0 yet. But generally after two days of use it's still over 50%.
Guess I use my phone very differently from you guys.

Mine's usually down to 80-85 by the time I get to work.

Ditto. Mine was 97% when I left the house, 1.5h later it's 80%. What was I doing? Listening to a podcast and sent I think 3 text messages?
