Weird Glitch; equipment change YYC-YXE AC8588 selling business seats as economy

Look at buying a fare today from

YYC-YXE

AC8588 has some unique “economy” seats from row 1-4

There was an equipment change but for some reason they are selling the business seats as economy.

There was an equipment change from Q400 to a CR9. Given they wouldn't normally sell J on this flight, they'll just sell all Y even though the equipment swap has a J cabin.

RMKS/EQUIPMENT CHANGE FROM DH4Y78 TO CRA76Y DUE ACFT 426REQUIRE
D IN BASE FOR MTC.

This happened to me too for YLW - YVR. They seated me in J, but there was no J service. You just get a bigger seat. It was an equipment swap for me also.

That flight should be around 50 minutes. There is no real difference (other than a bigger seat) between Economy and Business.

For some people, the bigger seat and more legroom is a pretty big difference.

I flew YYC-YEG in J recently and there was definitely a service difference. Y had a water run. J had a full beverage service.

But if they're selling it as Y and operating it with the DH4 crew, it's just going to be bigger seats.

I think there is scheduled CR9 service for YYC-YEG 1x a day around mid day, so would have J service. Rest of the time DH3/DH4.

Nothing wrong with propellers. The fan in a turbofan is just a propeller too, BTW. Just hidden by a cowling. And works like one a good part of the time too,

Not sure why they wouldn't operate it as a J service, board a few short-haul J snacks and drinks, and let anyone on the J waitlist clear into J.

Maybe they're 'worried' that the CR9 might be needed elsewhere and they end up scrounging up a DH4 to actually operate it.

The DH4 is an excellent plane. I'll take it over a CRJ any day.

As others alluded to, day of aircraft changes from DH4 or similar to CRA or similar still typically do not offer J class service/product, thus the J class seats are sold as Y class seats. Airports/CJM typically reseat SE, E, Star Alliance Gold, paid business class connectors, etc. in the first few rows to prevent any animosity from a basic fare getting the J seat and a full fare business class connecter Super Elite getting Y during the reseat process.
