Important Event Notes - FAQ
- Wait, isn't it winter in December in YYC?
Technically it's still fall until December 21st, so I can still call this a fall Do. But yes, it's likely to be winter conditions. It's YYC in December, after all
- Don't you know it's Christmas party season, you jerk? No way I can get away / I won't be able to get a babysitter / it's possible that Uber will have surge pricing later in the evening.
My Christmas party is the night before and I have no kids, so it works just fine for me
- Will I be able to enjoy a delectable menu with a flair for International cuisine, fine wines, and unequalled service?
No. There will be no hockey puck beef. The pastas won't all have spinach. There will be great booze. And the service will be good. And no Random capital Letters (outside of this Sentence).
Important Event Notes (real ones this time!)
- The burger and Scotch theme is purely optional. Those are the specialties of the restaurant, but you're free to have a salad and a diet Coke, fish and white wine or whatever floats your boat.
- There will likely be a deal on some Scotch tasting flights - details TBD.
- The Do host has not achieved Dorian's level of wealth and generosity. No T-shirts or other swag will be provided. Unless people want some AC pens, I have a bunch of those lying around. Or unless yyznomad shows up with some of his headphones and other goodies.

Fortification is most certainly called for - Let's hope the Westin has something better than AC when it comes to scotch.

Ride back to YYC
Anyone staying by YYC or flying 158 after the DO? (That is, when we leave Buchanan's)
Split a cab or uber?

I almost just screwed myself.
AmericanBovine and I have a 2 person FP. We'd booked one PNR for both of us on SFO-YYC in Y. Due to dwindling J, we eUped, hoping we could then swap it for a comp up.
Today, the flight was J1 Y1, so I knew we wouldn't be able to just downgrade and upgrade again.
So I canceled the booking, stupidly thinking it would go to J1 Y3. I forgot how that worked. It went to J3 Y1.
I booked him a seat first. It's extremely hard to find a FP booking for another person, even if you book it out of your account. It doesn't show up in the FP app at all, or in the "current bookings" on the website. It only shows up in the FP history if you search.
Anyway, it was J3 Y0, and I used a comp up to move him to J, so J2 Y1.
Then I booked me, J2 Y0, comp up, J1 Y1.
So we're no longer on the same PNR, but we're in J instead of R, saving me 2 eUps, and giving us much better IRROPS protection.
Amusingly, the flight was J1 R0, then J3 R2, but now it's J1 R1.

cow, was it really worth the hassle for 2 eUps and "much better" IRROPs protection?

laughed a bit at @canadiancow's mere hint of needing irrops protection.
then the SFO part sunk in and I remembered in the not too distant past (yesterday) my wife's AM flight was cancelled, my PM flight was severely delayed, the one I changed to got cancelled, and two more convenient SJC departures were cancelled. (just to Southern california, not to wintry weather in Canada).
