Important Event Notes - FAQ
  • Wait, isn't it winter in December in YYC?
Technically it's still fall until December 21st, so I can still call this a fall Do. But yes, it's likely to be winter conditions. It's YYC in December, after all

  • Don't you know it's Christmas party season, you jerk? No way I can get away / I won't be able to get a babysitter / it's possible that Uber will have surge pricing later in the evening.
My Christmas party is the night before and I have no kids, so it works just fine for me

  • Will I be able to enjoy a delectable menu with a flair for International cuisine, fine wines, and unequalled service?
No. There will be no hockey puck beef. The pastas won't all have spinach. There will be great booze. And the service will be good. And no Random capital Letters (outside of this Sentence).

Important Event Notes (real ones this time!)
  • The burger and Scotch theme is purely optional. Those are the specialties of the restaurant, but you're free to have a salad and a diet Coke, fish and white wine or whatever floats your boat.
  • There will likely be a deal on some Scotch tasting flights - details TBD.
  • The Do host has not achieved Dorian's level of wealth and generosity. No T-shirts or other swag will be provided. Unless people want some AC pens, I have a bunch of those lying around. Or unless yyznomad shows up with some of his headphones and other goodies.

Sadly, I have to withdraw my confirmation.

Wife's Christmas party, which I get to miss because I now have to coach son #1's hockey game Saturday evening, along with recital for daughter Saturday aft. Oh and a day trip to BOS on Sunday to visit son #2 .....

Will have to share Glen Breton some other time....

Well, that's a total crappage for us... but good for you.

Until the next DO then...

Just looked on the calendar here at work and it seems there is "?" beside Dec 8/9 ... so perhaps I'll still make this!

That would be great! Then we would have two from the Queen City contingent.

And the Cow wouldn't have to brave the cold streets of YYC by himself.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Hope you can make it! My wife always likes it when other medical people are around too.

So, @yyznomad is going to bring some stuff, I'll bring some pens, but does anyone have use for amenity kits? I have a bunch of the bags lying around and will accumulate a few more in the next week. Would be great for them to go to use rather than get thrown out.

Maybe I'll hand them out to my kids and grandkids on my CUN flight at the end of Dec.

Due to SFO-YYC being Y3, I had to book it earlier than expected. So two of us now actually have flights booked.

It's relatively new. It didn't exist when I moved here.

It's much better than the UA flight now because it includes a hot meal.

Quite old actually. But some years ago they ended up cancelling. When we moved from Oakland to Calgary in Jan. 1992, while I drove, the family including our cats flew from SFO to YYC on an AC, and I seem to recall they used a 727.

Good that they started again.

Anyone care for Hertz maps of various US cities from the early-mid 2000s?
