500X on shopping portal

Just got an E-mail saying I would get 500 times points on aeroplane shopping. So my question is am I looking at this right.?
I buy $100 at amazon.ca (which has 3X already) I would earn 50,000 or maybe 150,000 if they multiplied with the 3X
Sounds to good.

I believe this was targeted, right? I didnít receive one but my wife did.

Also, itís 500% (5x) not 500x which would certainly be too good to be true.

Yes it is targeted, but in my math 500% of 100 is 50,000 (maybe someone made an error,) maybe me, but I did the math again.

100% of something is equal to the something, e.g. 100% of 10 = 10
500% of something is 5 times 100% , in the case of 10 it's 50
500 times would be 50,000% of the starting number. (500 times 100% for each "1 time")

Percentages are dealt with WAY before grade 12 - but at least we aren't dealing with compound interest rates on mortgages. Have fun with your shopping.

Similarly, J offers 150% miles of the distance flown. That's too good to be true.

I received a similar offer but for 200% bonus miles (it says 200%, not 200x, FWIW).

I learned this little memory aid in 5th grade: "is over of equals percent over 100"

So for his example spending $100: 500 percent of $100 is X. Using the hint above you get: X/100 = 500/100. Multiple both sides by 100 and the denominators cancel and you get x = 500.

Sounds like a pretty convoluted way to multiply something by 5
