how to maximize the J experience:

walk back thru Y towards the end of the flight. Look at the poor* souls suffering 30 inch seat pitch, long lines for dirty lavs, eating their banana bread or month old individually shrink wrapped bread rolls.

*"poor" can also mean thrify or financially independent geniuses who realize being crammed in one place for 13 hours to save a couple thousand bucks will pay for lots of hotel rooms and meals on the ground.

Thank you FlyerTalkers. You’ve been great help. Any and all advice on this flight and on Taipei in general is greatly appreciated.

YYZnomad, the link doesn’t work. What’s the name of that forum?

It works for me on my devices... it's simply a link to another FT thread that I copy and pasted as per usual.

Here's the actual URL you can copy and paste if the link still doesn't work: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-canada-aeroplan/1530576-beer-pong-j.html

Try to avoid row 1 as that will have a lot of galley noise, light and people heading to the washrooms. The 787 thread will give you all the seat info you want. the config is 4 seats to a row with all seats having aisle access and the middle two do not have windows (duh!).
There is a new signature cocktail if you want to try it.
The meals are hit and miss. So pick what you like and hope for the best. There is also a dine anytime snack choice that others have mentioned above - I used to like the dimsum but last flight was not so good. BBQ chicken skewer is ok.
For drinks there is a selection of wines, JW Black, and a few other drinks.
Also a cheese/fruit plate and desserts after the main meal along with liquers like Baileys/Grand Marnier.
There will be a snack basket kept near the galley which will have chips and chocolate.
Noise cancelling headphones are provided but you can also use your own.

IMO one of the major benefit of J is much better treatment during IROPS. Experiencing some IROPS is one way to "maximize" the experience perhaps?

Depending on the route, the view out of YVR for the first few hours can be amazing. For this reason I always try to sit on the right hand side (K seats) when taking TPAC from YVR.
