Overflow J bags in closet: E170
Sitting in row 1, other passengers have put laptop bags etc. in overhead above us rather than under seats. I ask FA if she can put my laptop bag in the closet. “No, it’s not allowed.”
I have never heard this before either on AC or any other airline.
Anyone?

I know this might sound odd, however there is a height restriction for baggage imposed by Transport Canada in the forward cupboard of Embraer Jets. Depending on the existing contents of the cupboard this may be one plausible explanation.

How about just ask whose bags are these and ask if you could move them? I'm batting 100% with such peaceful interactions and I've never been rejected.
Anyway, for the OP, yes, I have experienced before but rarely... one time comes to mind on either the E90 or E75 where I was told the exact same thing a few years ago. Again, rare. Quite often the SD offers to put it into the closet on these metals.
