Aeroplan members targeted in phishing scam

https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/aeropl...scam-1.4016301

Websites that appear identical to the one used for the Aeroplan rewards program are swindling some Canadians out of their hard-earned points, experts say.

The scam is not a new one, but it has resurfaced recently with multiple reports of victims in Atlantic Canada.

By spoofing the actual Aeroplan site, the scammers are able to get their victims to unknowingly turn over their account information. That information can then be used to make purchases on the victims’ accounts, and the purchased items can be resold elsewhere.

Although, with AC, it could be real :P

Thanks for sharing the phishing link. I have submitted it to the usual resources (i.e. Phishtank) to have the site taken down. As others have noted it may be counterproductive to share the link publicly lest someone unprepared to visit the link clicks on the link. That being said, I'd argue that phishing emails should be shared on the forum (with URL hidden of course) since this is a growing and ongoing concern in the frequent flyer community as there have been reports of Phishers stealing millions of Aeropesos from people's accounts, etc. Ideally these scams should be front and centre on the forums (i.e. pinned and with a flag so you clearly see them) while they are being run.

In the future, should you encounter any Phishing related messages, feel free to PM them to me so that I can take similar action.

Safe Travels,

James

Meanwhile, these threads also exist. Would be nice if all of these were gather up in one place, like one central source for all scams, phishing or otherwise.

As did I, it's now gone and all merged. I do feel posting at least the root area as a non-linkable item is the best process for these however? Although I guess anything that isn't @aircanada.com is dubious.

As others have noted, the email address provided by AC on their website to report phishing does not work.

I sent a DM to them and have asked them to let their Web and/or Security team know about this and hopefully correct the issue. I'll report back when I get a meaningful response.

Sorry for posting that link, wasn't thinking! It was XXX.shiptrack.taptwice.ne* . Don't think anyone can accidentally click on that.

It takes you to a spoof Air Canada website that looks very real.
