BTW I can't help thinking the leak was meant to kill Ben Smith's nomination. Probably the hand of one of the AF pilot unions. (I believe there are at least three.)

AF pilot union not in favour.

The next chief executive of Air-France-KLM must not be beholden to external interests, said a senior French pilot on the group’s board of directors, criticizing the possible choice of Air Canada’s chief operating officer as preferred candidate.

If I was on the board, i would view the fact the Union is dictating who should be CEO as a problem. Having the board ignore the union and appoint him any way also send a strong message. A positive message for the future of AF.

Would be interesting to see what he does with Joon. As far as I can tell it is Air Frances equivalent to Rouge.

I suspect the main pilot union has some representation on the board though.

BTW Ben Smith is still mentioned in today's French news:

Love the headline "Air France-KLM : une compagnie sans pilote"

What external interests would Ben Smith be beholden to? I suppose shareholders - God forbid.

Much better to be beholden to the AF pilot's union.

AF employees own 3.9% of the AF stock. Possibly mainly pilot unions? Not that they really care I imagine, more as a way to be represented on the board. How that fits in the AF/KLM consortium I don't know

Not a chance. Or, to be correct, only a very extremely small chance.

AC is a founding *A member and has anti-trust exempt JV’s with many other *A members. Plus WS is now in bed with DL.

Not much new in there. Looking at the original Liberation is actually more interesting.

It appears they advanced the date of the meeting to this Thursday in order to make a decision. Many members will join by phone.

Second detail: salary to be offered apparently is 3.3 millon Euro/year. "Only" 20% more than his current pay. But three times that of his predecessor.

People are obviously not well paid in France....

So, assuming the rumours are true: is this a loss to AC or a mistake by AF?
