When booking on UA site will my AC metal flights be on 016 tickets or 014?

I have flight booking coming up.
YYC to LAX to SFO to DFW to AUS to SAN to YYC
It's cheaper to book on the UA site than to have a multi city YYC to LAX & SAN to YYC on Air Canada website.
On United yyc to lax and san to yyc is AC Metal. Everything else is UA obviously.
When booking on UA site, will they put my AC metal flights on 016 tickets or is there a way to ensure that those segments are 014?
Obviously trying to make sure I get my AQD's.

Thanks in advance!

All AC metal flights earn AQD, regardless of marketing carrier or ticket stock.

Really? The altitude site says only 014 gets AQD and the contact aeroplan said AC flights booked on UA get 016 and won't go towards AQD? Or are the Aeroplan people that misinformed and useless?

Yes, no, maybe. Also depends on exactly how you asked the question.

thank you! So it's the first bullet point that guarantees the AQD will be fulfilled.

One of the drawbacks of AC having spun out Aeroplan and later started Altitude is that neither AC's nor Aeroplan's call centre agents are really informed about Altitude. The AC call centre staff just don't really know much about loyalty programs and the Aeroplan staff mostly just know about booking tickets on Aeroplan points, which are not the same as Altitude.

FT is a much better source :)

AC booked on UA site gets you a 016 ticket.

Agreed. FT is a superior resource. And faster as well.

True, lol. It's probably common knowledge on this forum but it did not occur to me to look out for these things until I noticed recently that AC flight booked with AC from YYZ to SFO earned me 1130 UA award miles (i.e. half of actual distance), whereas in the other direction (separate ticket, booked with UA on AC metal) it was only around 600 miles (i.e. based on cost).

I guess the rule of thumb is to book with UA for short AC flights and book with AC for long AC flights.

Question: I might be going YYZ-DEN-LIH (Hawaii); UA can write the ticket, but AC cannot online.

-- is there any way to get this issued on 014?
-- if not, I presume no AQD on the DEN-LIH which is on UA metal

I'm easily going to clear 100K for SE, but might struggle on SQD.

(Edited to refer to SQD)

This is an old thread. There's no such thing as AQD any more since there's no A any more.

You could try but I doubt you can get the call centre to issue a ticket with that flight on it, the call centre generally is still restricted by what the computer system offers and they probably won't have this combination either. They definitely have rules on what they can and can't ticket that restrict flights that are theoretically possible from being offered for sale.

You might try asking a real live travel agent what they can do specifying that you want it issued on an 014 ticket. They will probably be able to answer straight up "no, it's prohibited by this rule" or "sure we can, here's the price that comes up" -- which might be an outrageous full Y price.

AC has published fares for that routing, but none for J (there's one published full J fare, but it requires non-stop).

But I'm not sure they allowing UA operated segments.
