Maximum miles?

OK from the FT mileage chart
yyz to HKG 7790
or
yyz to YVR 2080 and YVR to HKG 6370

Looking at this I should not take the direct flight.? Comments?

As long as you have two different flt numbers you will get the higher mileage.

Depends what fare class you're on, too. Remember that you run the risk of 50% miles domestic on lower fare classes no matter what you do.

seems silly on the Part of AC the flights are the same! the direct flight STOPS in YVR.

Unless you're booked on V or higher, you will actually get more miles on the 'direct' flight.

It's just that when there were still 2 daily flights operating, it makes sense to book them as seperate segments in case you decide to switch to the other flight which isn't a direct YYZ-HKG (meaning they'll consider it a routing change).
