You seem to have quite the luck with concierges. :D

I'm just trying to reach an actual freaking human who can help me. I am so utterly totally defeated.

I am putting this in this Concierge thread because NONE of my calls were ever answered.

Lower your expectations accordingly.

I still can't actually reach an actual human who is not a general reservation agent. At one point, in a heroic effort, one of them tried to put me through to the 'Air Canada Specialized Desk." After a long wait time, that call too was dropped.

I actually had a chance today to use an eupgrade nominee and expiring credits to upgrade a good friend on YYZ-ICN and NRT-YYZ. Positive R space. I feel utterly defeated. I hate the airline.

I'm 99% sure the issue is that you can't add a nominee through the website if they've never held status. You need a phone agent to do it. But I did that through reservations earlier this year, no problem. It took a couple minutes, but there was no wait to get through to res, and it was easily handled.

Wait, what? I've added my dad as a nominee (on the website) before and he's never ever had any level of status. He's a FOTSG's FOTSG.

Should we have a new thread titled "SEs post here to help you determine whether to DIY, call the call centre, or contact a concierge..."
Or maybe "List of serviceable items that you don't need a concierge for..." :p

Does AC have concierges in CPH and AMS ? I emailed the CPH concierge and never recd a response. I did email the AMS concierge but its not yet 24hrs for them to respond (and still a couple of days for my flight) so I hope they will respond.
And before anyone says email the central concierge desk, my questions are not about my itin but details on airport connections, lounges, wait times, etc. Something a boots on the ground concierge should know.

I've added my son on my account and he has never had status. .

And maybe we should have a thread - "How can an SE reach an actual human?"

Quoting someone at AC:

We still have an issue of adding members who have never been Elite as noiminees, so if you encounter any issues please let us know, we have a simple fix that just requires human intervention.
It might also be something like "never had status and have never been a nominee prior to the new program". But it matches my experience this year, and it's straight from the horse's mouth.

Oh. Well, I seem to fail at simply getting human intervention (finally after 3 hours and multiple shoutouts for help, someone from Aeroplan called).

Dismal.

Assuming the website is correct (and what am I even saying? Of course the website is correct! How could it not be correct? What a foolish rhetorical question) then yes, they have concierge in both AMS & CPH

https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/...ervices.html#/

I've actually met the concierge in AMS, so I know for certain they are (or at least were, in the summer) there.

According to an SE friend, she called in for help connection in YUL, and was told YUL was severely understaffed and no concierge would be available for her tomorrow. She said she could not believe it happened to AC’s very home city.

In fairness, the concierge hotline says "if YOU are travelling in the next 24 hours". In the case listed, an SE was not traveling within 24h.

Upgrading an upcoming trip for someone with positive R space (which would only immediately clear if they are >36 hours before takeoff) might be more officially a job for SE reservations line.

I'm just as frustrated though when there is a hold for concierge. Even moreso when they have zero training and turn a 10min issue into much longer of a fix.

I've had some brief conversations with some concierges this year and indeed some are not well-versed in the basic SE stuff.

Adding an eUpgrade Nominee: I had to do this the other day. I called the SE line and they redirected me to Aeroplan. The Aeroplan agent said it wasn't really his department but that he thought he could figure it out. He had someone standing with him who walked him through it and he eventually got it done. But he also mentioned something about "she's never had status before." I didn't follow it, but it would seem to be consistent with what others are saying here.

Either way, if you need to add a Nominee, it seems to be an Aeroplan task more than a concierge one, at least at the moment.

One of my SE friends did exactly the same thing as you yesterday as you. She wants to make my partner her nominee for the rest of the year for a trip together she also needs to update her partner. She got the exact same error message and called the SE concierge line, whoever answered the phone did not know how to do it. She later called the regular SE line, where the agent did not how to do it either but sought some help and put her on hold for about 15 minutes, but finally did it. Their explanation was my partner’s Aeroplan account was dormant but it was not true. It could be the problem my partner does not have a status.

Please stop calling the concierge for things like that.

1. It occupies there time so they can't deal with actual urgent day-of-travel stuff.
2. They're supposed to be trained on actual urgent day-of-travel stuff. Not this.

I find it ridiculous that on one page, there are people complaining "I can't get through to the concierge" immediately followed by "I'm calling the concierge for stuff they shouldn't be handling, even though the regular SE line always does it faster."
