We are getting OT but you can think of many reasons. Mine is that have several bags. AC only give me two tags. I use the current ones on my most frequently used bags and leave the expired ones on the less frequently used ones to avoid swapping tags all the time.
Of course, for other people, pick one: laziness, clinging to past glory, ego, newer tag broke so had to use an old one or any other legitimate/illegitimate reason. Whatever.

In my case it causes me to select flights with 0 or 1 connection at most, so it may well increase revenue. It also causes me to leave a minimum of two hours between flights at connection points. Its aggravating, but frankly changing to WS or a US carrier doesnt really change that analysis. The problem with the likes of WS is that if you do misconnect there are fewer options for recovery in many cases.
