B fare upgrade?
 

I won an AC ticket through an AP competition. It has been booked in "B" class. Is there any reason anyone can think of that four days beforehand (I'm Elite), I can't call with an upgrade cert? Would there be anything on file that would say despite the fare class, upgrades are not allowed?

Don't take this to the bank, but I believe these types of tickets are booked out of revenue buckets, so despite the fare paid (or lack thereof), the cert should be applicable.

I have seen contest-winner PNRs before and I think I would have remembered if they said anything about prohibiting upgrades.

Call and ask them to give you the fare basis. If it's booked under an Aeroplan award fare basis - you won't be able to upgrade. Otherwise, you'll have no problems.
