FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: jc94
This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the original 2004 - 2014 thread , 2015 edition, 2016 edition and 2017 edition

The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. More Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs should be posted elsewhere on FT as should topics better suited to other forums such as Travel Products for questions about luggage or Travel Photography for discussion about cameras.

While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply here as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

The armchair experts, speculators, regulators, and fanboys here can explain these to you.

I'm not any of these.

No, not regardless. If you can pay me enough to maintain my SF residence, and fly back every weekend (in J), on top of what I make now, then that's a pretty good start.

One of my issues right now is all these companies that will give 15 days paid vacation, and nothing more. Add on "no unpaid leave", "no remote work", etc., and it's a non-starter, pretty much regardless of compensation.

That's certainly the easiest way for me to get in the door, but I'm good at other things too

Donno about the flying in J thing, but the "other" tech company that starts with G...o.... has unlimited vac that is actually unlimited (I've taken 6 weeks so far) and remote work is OK-ish (all depending on team)

Yeah, even in somewhat backward YVR, many companies have the unlimited vacation policy (including my previous startup). Of course, taking more than two weeks off at a time is totally another thing...

Not suggesting that the Cow comes up here for lower pay, just making the observation that companies outside of Mountain View have this policy.

Google is much bigger than I want. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. I'm also not willing to work in the south bay. It's boring AF. And I don't mean Air France.

Isn’t October 18th a tad early for the first snow in Southern Ontario?

Starting my annual research on direct flights to MCO, TPA and FLL!! Less than 60 days to the family trip to PLS, but I do not think I can hold out until then.

We need to have a planning meeting for the next YQB Do. I suggest TPA for a Lightning game!

I will see what I can do! Most likely not before January though. Any interesting dates/games I should target?

Seriously?

Ugh.

I'm in Mumbai, where it's 36°. Now reconsidering my plan to fly back to Toronto on Saturday.

It’s meant to be 16c tomorrow but they were reporting a few cm in say ... Newmarket. I’m not that far north as you may recall but we definitely had a dusting. Pretty much all the road signs on the 401 were unreadable and anyone parked outside had to wipe down.

Hope your upgrade clears.
