From post #49 in this thread, here's one potential way to (re)inflate an AC seat:
  • Go the home screen "Your Seat". (find this on the seat side panel; not the main video screen)
    • Hold the top left hand corner "Air Canada" (with AC logo) for 3 seconds. Updated (Apr 9 18): may need to hold for as long as 45 seconds for key pad to appear
      • Dial pad shows up - hit 3-2-1.
        • Press "Reset Lumbar Support"
Note that this method has not met 100% success so YMMV.
A better method is for a crew member to use the reset switch under the seat, on the aisle side.

Compensation offers (green/white sheet completed)
40K AE- Apr 18 (50% back of the J class one way redemption)
2018 Jun - $500 coupon
2018 Sep $1,000 eCoupon or 40K AP (P fare TPAC)
2018 Sep $500 eCoupon (P fare TPAC) (no change on protest- update - 6 months later the $150 was increased to $500 - admitted they had made an error)

Compensation offers (no green/white sheet completed)
100K - May 5 (C$150 eCoupon; was moved to a functioning seat after meal service)
2017 Sept - 8,000 AE miles - reported via complaint web page after realizing it was a faulty seat, not standard discomfort; Asked for return of eUps but they declined.
2017 Nov & 2018 Feb - $500 coupons both times (second time on protest that $500 had been offered the previous time)
2018 Sep. $250 coupon (on a paid J TATL).
2018 Nov - $500 eCoupon (J TATL)

Standard eCoupon compensation offers (no haggling; following a recurring pattern)
~10+ hours: $1000
Long TPAC (TPE-YVR)

~6 to ~10 hours: $500
Short TPAC (NRT-YVR)
TATL
South America: YYZ-GRU

less than ~6 hours: 300

Have a Service Director (SD) That Is Giving You the Case of the Shrugs? Like the real life version of this ASCII emoji -> Ż\_(ツ)_/Ż ?

No success with the SD and/or crew rectifying your deflated seat and you can't be/aren't accommodated to another J seat? If you asked for a compensation form and the SD says they have no idea what you are talking about, you can use the below picture of the stub portion to help freshen their memory (better than nothing)...

Please note that for the longest time, the "Green Compensation Form" version was used, and there have been recent reports of the "White Compensation Form" replacing the Green version. Reports here have indicated that the two forms are virtually identical except for the colour.
There is now an even newer White Form which explicitly lists "deflated seat" and "deflated seat and fixed", among many other items.

Here is a snapshot of the NEWEST full form (as of August 2019), courtesy of lallied

Between avoiding AC 777/787 metal and my new inflatable friend here, this may reduce future miserable oceanic crossings for me.

I was so tired I forgot to flip over, but in fact pillow covered valve no problem. Clearly smarter and more elegant to have valve on the underside :-)

Me too - bright orange.

Maybe I can get it stencilled with something catchy involving camping and AC ....

At best, #ACCAMPING . If, by some miracle I have an inflated seat, I can rent it out on the flight for about $40, or the high bidder from the unfortunate park bench crowd.

Perhaps you could operate a system similar to Bid Upgrade where pax can choose from Premium Inflatable or Executive Inflatable

That being said, doing this a couple of times might make this problem more noticeable (in addition to making the ride more comfortable). The problem with deflate gate is other pax in J wouldn't notice the glitch, just the affected pax with the sore back! Would be funny if AC has to enforce a policy banning this for "safety" reasons.

I know. But I think AC should have a couple of empty seats on every flight to accommodate deflated passengers. Its no longer a one off - seems like most flights will have a deflated seat. Right now the compensation seems to be heading downwards and J passengers are bringing mattress pads on board. What next, BYOB and bring your own food ? For a $4k or higher seat.

But don't worry, at least you'll get there on time.

Oh, wait.

2) Told SD, he called maintenance
3) Maintenance first tried the screen trick - did NOT work. Apparently there has been a software update
4) Maintenance hard reset the seat using underside switch
5) Seat inflated, he left
6) Went to sleep, woke up four hours later to feeling of great discomfort - sleeping on a park bench
7) SD very helpful, there was one other empty seat in cabin, but that one also had deflated lumbar
8) So I pulled out the sleeping pad :-)
9) Inflated in 8-9 puffs
10) perfect fit
11) need to put AC mattress cover on, as otherwise gets very warm
12) very comfortable, more comfortable than AC cushion at best of times
13) Flight attendant in charge of our aisle super interested, we had a good chat about it all
14) SD offered up white form no issues, wrote it up, was very helpful, as was rest of crew
15) In summary, would not hesitate to use it again - key tip is to put valve face down, and to make sure pad doesn't slide down into well

Let's see how lucky I am on return! #AirCanadaCamping
Outstanding to see the hack in place- this is why FT is required reading. OTOH, bummer that hacks are needed. but we digress.
One Q- any issues with deflating (HAHAHA) the mattress when you were done sleeping? I found it harder to inflate, but the air came out nicely and I was able to get back into the carry bag.
Might order another one in case they run out...

This is next-level travel hacking at its finest. Solves the park bench issue and ensures Zone 1 priority rescue in the unlikely event of a water landing.

My only concern is the room required to roll up the portable J-suite accessory at the end of the flight - is it feasible to wrestle the thing back in its pouch when within the pod?

The "Orange Pads" it shall be!

Hmm, trying to figure out if this is better or worse than "Yellow Vests".

Not inviting political commentary, of course.

Yup. I actually used to use it on the very long haul old blue pod flights (aka OZ). Easy enough to deflate, but not as easy as new pod seats. Those I seem to be able to deflate remotely by just selecting the seat. Months before.

The self-inflating one can be a challenge to roll up even at a campsite. The puffy one shouldn't be as difficult, but @visitor would know best at this point.

One things for sure - they won't go unnoticed and get left behind.

I'm already chuckling at some of the antics required to accomplish this in flight. I imagine it being akin to a tardy Mr Bean getting ready for the dentist.
