From post #49 in this thread, here's one potential way to (re)inflate an AC seat:
  • Go the home screen "Your Seat". (find this on the seat side panel; not the main video screen)
    • Hold the top left hand corner "Air Canada" (with AC logo) for 3 seconds. Updated (Apr 9 18): may need to hold for as long as 45 seconds for key pad to appear
      • Dial pad shows up - hit 3-2-1.
        • Press "Reset Lumbar Support"
Note that this method has not met 100% success so YMMV.
A better method is for a crew member to use the reset switch under the seat, on the aisle side.

Compensation offers (green/white sheet completed)
40K AE- Apr 18 (50% back of the J class one way redemption)
2018 Jun - $500 coupon
2018 Sep $1,000 eCoupon or 40K AP (P fare TPAC)
2018 Sep $500 eCoupon (P fare TPAC) (no change on protest- update - 6 months later the $150 was increased to $500 - admitted they had made an error)

Compensation offers (no green/white sheet completed)
100K - May 5 (C$150 eCoupon; was moved to a functioning seat after meal service)
2017 Sept - 8,000 AE miles - reported via complaint web page after realizing it was a faulty seat, not standard discomfort; Asked for return of eUps but they declined.
2017 Nov & 2018 Feb - $500 coupons both times (second time on protest that $500 had been offered the previous time)
2018 Sep. $250 coupon (on a paid J TATL).
2018 Nov - $500 eCoupon (J TATL)

Standard eCoupon compensation offers (no haggling; following a recurring pattern)
~10+ hours: $1000
Long TPAC (TPE-YVR)

~6 to ~10 hours: $500
Short TPAC (NRT-YVR)
TATL
South America: YYZ-GRU

less than ~6 hours: 300

Have a Service Director (SD) That Is Giving You the Case of the Shrugs? Like the real life version of this ASCII emoji -> Ż\_(ツ)_/Ż ?

No success with the SD and/or crew rectifying your deflated seat and you can't be/aren't accommodated to another J seat? If you asked for a compensation form and the SD says they have no idea what you are talking about, you can use the below picture of the stub portion to help freshen their memory (better than nothing)...

Please note that for the longest time, the "Green Compensation Form" version was used, and there have been recent reports of the "White Compensation Form" replacing the Green version. Reports here have indicated that the two forms are virtually identical except for the colour.
There is now an even newer White Form which explicitly lists "deflated seat" and "deflated seat and fixed", among many other items.

Here is a snapshot of the NEWEST full form (as of August 2019), courtesy of lallied

Now on AC 028. 7A .

Top part of seat was deflated when I boarded. I have reset it and am hoping it stays inflated. 3-in-a-row would be really bad!

My last TPAC full flight no empty seats, three resets. My biggest problem is I'm a side sleeper and the rock hard lumbar section causes hip pain right away.

Great chart! Looking at the data, it's notable that 1A, 5G and 7A are the most reported seats. Whether there is a meaning to this is unclear. Is it that reporting FF choose these seats more often, or ?

Motivated by above, I wondered if there is a correlation with age of cabin. Given that the 777 are updated cabins and thus I couldn't figure out where to get the information, I focused on the 787s, found the registration dates at airfleets.net, and generated the following table:

At first glance, there are appears to be no correlation with age of aircraft within the data collected so far.

I don't think the correlation is the age of the aircraft. The 777s got their cabins after many of the 788s and many of the 789s were delivered. A recent pancake seat was on an aircraft that only received its new "dream Cabin" in February of 2016.

As for correlation with seat numbers, I don't think we have enough data since only AC FTers are posting their experiences. What we are missing are all those others who don't know of FT and/or think the hard board and metal frames are "a feature" of the seat.

My suspicion is that most FTers know which seats are "best". First row has extra legroom, last row typically has extra privacy. AK will almost always be preferred over DG unless you're traveling with someone (which does not seem to be the majority of the reported cases).

Fin 840 on a tpac found it deflated on boarding and the first reset held until just after take off. A couple of additional resets didn't do the trick so ended up moving across the aisle to the only other empty seat which stayed inflated for the remainder of the flight. Had a fantastic crew onboard!

Ok, thanks. At 3 weeks now, so will wait another week and then follow up.

Is the correspondence via email or snail mail (i.e. will it be impacted by a Canada Post strike)?

In my experience, this is much longer than it normally takes. As an SE, I have had a response back in 3-5 days.

They correspond via email, FWIW.

10G was also deflated on this flight but the occupant didn't mention it to the SD until the flight was on the approach.

AC126 YVR-YYZ C-FIVM FIN 738 on Dec 11 has the backrest of seat 11K deflated. Pump reset has worked thus far but I am not optimistic.

Edit: As expected, it deflated right at the ribs and shoulder. a lovely experience to sleep with.
