I think that depends.
If I flew enough to earn AC SE and AA EXP, then yes, I'd agree. Earn one, then earn the other.
But if the option was AC SE and AA Platinum, or just continue flying AC, I think the benefits of flying where I'm top status would outweigh what I'd get out of mid-status on another airline.

And I requalified in June as per the thread.
Mods, I suggest merging the 2 threads.

In the past, I usually requalified in June. This year, I only requalified now, and I'm going to end the year at about 130K. One of my lowest AC years, while being my most-flown year overall. Nearly 300K!

That speaks to the topic that Dorian and others have raised in which they wonder about incentives to fly with AC beyond achieving SE status. May I ask: where have you directed your custom, and did it have to do with a lack of incentive to remain with AC, made more sense to use other carriers, or neither/both of the above?

I crossed zero miles way back in January, then again in June, and most recently on September 31. If figure I still have time for a mileage run to get to SE.
I don't think anyone has any idea how much I truly enjoy these threads. Reading them just makes be feel so warm and fuzzy.

Threshold gifts also 'sell out' so there is no guarantee that you will actually get the gift you want other than what is left
