Quebec might have been liberated from something, but if it is to go back into deficits, as promised by the Liberal/Conservative coalition by reducing the income tax by 27% over the next 5 years AND increasing healthcare expenses, then I kind of wonder what does the word LIBERATED means??

Even If I'm not a "pequiste", may I say with all due respects that the PQ government did an excellent job in managing the province, by far better than Mike Harris in Ontario who created an additional burden to the next 2-3 generations by running deficits after deficits.

I feel it's the wrong place to discuss about the specifics of Quebec politics in here. Just to say quickly we will unlikely agree with each other. As a fellow Quebecer, I think the PQ Government was horrible. And I found that to be an under-statement to use the word 'horrible'. Why? Bureaucratic, short-sighted, without focus and inefficient. Most importantly, they gave the province a sense of instability and they won in 1998 because the way the elecotral map is divided in Quebec doesn't reflect Representation by Population. In other words, the current system is flawed and something that all parties agree need to change. Suffice to say, a Government who was elected with less popular vote than the Official Opposition can't be too convincing whatsoever and shows there is a problem in the democratic process. I am glad in 2003 the Liberals have won and I am sure the majority of people in Montreal feel the same too as shown by the seats won there. The PQ Government was hinderance to Quebec's economy and social advancement, can't be more glad to see them gone.

I couldn't agree more with you about this forum being the wrong place to discuss politics and my apologies for raising the subject.

However, to compare Quebec and Irak, both being "liberated" was a bit distasteful from SH, unless he feels like being in Irak when he crosses the Ottawa River http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

Just to conclude, may I remind you that with a last night results, the Official Opposition has about 56% of the population vote where the new government only had 44%... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif But as you say, no system is perfect! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I was just surprised that I couldn't vote in the election since I have been away from Quebec for more than 2 years.

Nice to see the view in which we are held from the other solitude...

If the new government in Québec is more right-leaning, then SH will probably lose out on those generous Québec film grants/tax credits that subsidize his line of work and pay for his upgradeable tickets.

I would interpret Quebec being liberated from the threat of another referendum (i.e. an old idea) and not that of a murderous dictator

I wonder if Air Canada will try to escape from the burdens of the Official Languages Act. With all the FA layoffs, I understand that AC is having to pay for language courses for unilingual FA's from AC and Jazz that are having to bump into Montreal to keep their jobs. The FA's are offline for the months that it takes to complete the course, but still have to be paid.

You said the Official Opposition has 56% of votes, maybe in your dream but they only got 33%. The Liberal party got 46%. See for yourself in the link provided above. If you are going to talk politics, at least get your facts right, dont' come here and mislead people of other provinces thinking, WOW, the Official Opposition got screwed big time.

If you add 33% for the PQ and 20% for the ADQ and the 3% for the others, I'm sorry bud, but in my opinion it stills come to 56% of the population who voted against the Liberal! Prend une grande respiration mon ami!

I apologize to my friends from the other solitude for saying the Official Opposition had 56%. I should have said that 56% of the population voted against the winning party last night...
