When will it be in YUL and how can I see it?

tcook052 Sep 17, 2017 10:52 pm

Sorry I missed the Electra's YEG visit. One of 149 Electra's built she's a beauty. ^

Here she was in YVR ten days ago; the oldest member of the fleet making the newest member stop and hold short.
TCC has been holed up in the main AC hangar much of the latter part of Aug and early Sept, with the odd local excursion, and always eliciting comments from other AC pilots on frequency.

So tiny compared to that boeing.

Yet the seat pitch is likely greater in the 10A.

AC should sell tickets on this bird like LH does on their Junkers Ju 52.

Perhaps even special runs YVR-YYJ/YLW, YYC-YEG, YYZ-YOW/YUL so that people could insert a very cool experience into what would be a normal flight between a normal city-pair.

trek604 Sep 17, 2017 11:55 pm

Cool. Anyone have ATC from YVR of that?

Absolutely, back when flying was unaffordable to anyone except the ultra-wealthy. Now even people of limited means can do things like go to Mexico for a week.

Always respect your elders!

Nice pic!

In keeping with their brilliant PR strategy, Air Canada's media relations and advertising unit can sell tickets as an "Amelia Earhart Experience" and do a fly past of Gimli MB.

They generally had two onboard lavs in 1930's air transport:

Genuinely surprised that the 10-A still has a valid airworthiness certificate!

It's likely not registered for commercial use, so not at all surprising if that's the case.

yyznomad Sep 22, 2017 6:35 pm

Tomorrow (Sep 23) it will be at YHZ.

Not by much. I did a flight on "her" during AC's 60th Anniversary when it also did a cross country tour. Seats were sold for a short flight over Edmonton from/to YXD with the proceeds going to AC's charity flights program. Unfortunately the original straw/wood seats had to be replaced by sets of traditional Y seats in a 1-1 configuration. Pitch was about the same as I remember having on Concorde. Photos below.

I was lucky enough to get a ride in her when she was here - Well kinda

Surprisingly about the same as a Dash8, though noisier! We did have a beautiful day for such a flight and no CAT.

While I am mindful that bumping a dead thread is not encouraged, this seemed the best venue to add this update.

https://simpleflying.com/air-canada-...sary-donation/

In celebration of its 85th anniversary, Air Canada donated an L10A aircraft registration CF-TCC, one of the three planes of this model purchased by Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA) in the 1930s. Trans-Canada Air Lines was the forerunner of current Air Canada.

The L-10A aircraft type operated TCA’s inaugural flight on September 1, 1937, a 50-minute trip from Vancouver to Seattle, carrying mail and two passengers.

The iconic aircraft, the first fleet type flown by the carrier, made its final journey as it taxied from the Air Canada hangar at Winnipeg International Airport to the Museum at a handover ceremony. The airplane will go on permanent public display as an iconic piece of aviation history. Retired Air Canada captains Gerry Norberg and Robert Giguere guided the plane from the airline’s hangar.

As an Air Canada and Aviation buff, loved the video and seeing that majestic lady again.

I may just have to go to Winnipeg (between the mosquito and snow season) and visit the aviation museum.
