Upgrade Question ...

So here's the scoop ...

I'm an SE MM booked on an international YYZ-XXX flight in paid J. Wife, no status, is on an Aeroplan ticket in Y on the same flight (Poor form I know, long story - don't ask ) - booked from my AP account.

When I went to check her in I was surprised to see her being offered an e-upgrade (with a copay).

2 Questions:

1. Is this legit - i.e.within SOP's
2. Where is she on the upgrade list - i.e. does she inherit my status?

Any insight would be appreciated.

1. Yes, this is legit. https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/...ade-offer.html

2. She will not inherit your status for the upgrade list at the gate. She will be an upgrader with zero status, so behind all Altitude members. But ahead of most AC staff.

What you are seeing is a glitch, where it's probably seeing your Aeroplan number (since you booked it) and your last name (I'm assuming you two have a common last name).

As a result of that, if you do the request that way, she very well may inherit your status.

There is a way to request an upgrade for another person on your flight, but this is not it.

Would OP rather upset AC (and their defenders in this subforum) or his wife?

Interestingly enough, we do NOT have the same last name ...

So is it a glitch or is Lights correct?

For tickets issued from my AP account, the BP (doesn't have to be on AC) shows my status about half of the time. Not sure if it's really a glitch or is it intended, as this has been going on for years.

The latter can belong to the former group, so...

Either one or the other is a glitch. My guess is, the glitch is when it does not show the account holder status.

The glitch is when it costs AC money. Only then AC will have the incentive to fix it.

Dorian agrees with you.

OP as per the others, just ride with it... let your wife inherit your status.

^Has been my experience with Aeroplan bookings on my account--my no status "kids" have indeed sometimes inherited my status on those flights and were bumped to front last winter from SCL-YYZ ahead of other SEs.

That loophole was closed as of this spring, at least according to my experience.
