Aeroplan "Terms & Conditions"... program end date. Error?
 
I was looking for T&C for seat selection charges (I thought they were free... economy S & T class) when I came across unexpected Aeroplan program termination dates. I'm hoping this is an error... and notified Aeroplan... but they have not responded to me.

"22. Subject to earlier termination or amendment of the Aeroplan Program, you can accumulate Aeroplan Miles until December 31, 2017, and request reward travel until March 31, 2018. Reward travel must be completed by December 14, 2018."

Ugh, really? That doesn't make any sense. We'd be sitting on accumulated Air Canada miles till 2020?

My memory could be faulty but I thought this has always been there and they just roll it to the next year each and every year.

Your memory is working perfectly well - this clause has always been there and is updated every year.

Here is an example from 2008: https://web.archive.org/web/20080420..._conditions.do

Subject to earlier termination or amendment of the Aeroplan program, you can accumulate Aeroplan Miles until December 31, 2008, and request reward travel until March 31, 2009. Reward travel must be completed by December 14, 2009.

This wording has been used for many years.

it certainly does with the 2020 Altitude announcement, however I don't think AC is ready to suddenly pull that trigger 2 years early. For starters I would bet there is no way the IT infrastructure is in place yet. I'm imagining the AQD team would have to pull some tremendous OT also looking after AQS and AQM!!

do I have to pay for AC seat selection in S & T Class on Reward tickets?...
because the AC website is charging me...
