Will Swissport Strike Affect Air Canada Flights?

Flying YYZ to YYC on AC 135 this Saturday, July 29.

Will a Swissport strike affect Air Canada flights departing YYZ?

Does Swissport even service Air Canada flights?

Hoping for best (no strike) but preparing for worst (flight insurance).

Swissport does not service Air Canada

Swissport does not serve AC at YYZ or YYC IIRC.

Swissport mainly services AC at stations outside of Canada. Most of ACs servicing domestically is handled in house, and by Jazz.

i do believe they may provide fueling services to AC at some Canadian stations though.

AC isn't on the list posted above.

The list was YYZ specific

I was just reading an article about this and saw the following ...

The workers handle baggage and cargo, tow planes, clean cabins, and perform flight operations tasks for more than 30 airlines, including British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates, Sunwing and Air Transat.

Air Canada said it won’t be affected by the strike as it operates its own baggage handling, and WestJet won’t, because it uses a different company.

And it won't affect Air Canada because ... they don't clean their planes anyway?

Any reason to believe staff at the other unaffected airlines including AC may refuse to cross Teamster Swissport picket lines?

However, Swissport services airlines that connect to Air Canada.
Consider the pax on EgyptAir, EVA, Turkish or Jet who need to connect to AC with their bags. Air Canada baggage handlers will refuse to cross picket lines and they will not accept any additional activity that undercuts union solidarity.

Sorry, is this thread about the strike affecting Air Canada flights, or Air Canada operations, or both? I only travel with carry on (how dare I!) and so far my flights have not been affected at all.

You sound like a union rep. Do you know this for a fact.

Umm, but that's not what is happening at all.

As I understand it, it's T3. So AC staff at T1 won't be going near the picket lines. They may be on the 192 rocket or UPX with picket people but the lines ... are at T3 - I assume. If they are anywhere near the airport?!?

But those transfers could affect AC. And remember it's the last carriers reaponaibilty to deliver luggage... I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with AC for lost luggage. Or delayed.
