I strongly feel that the minimization of the seriousness of the event is an intentional strategy. Best minimize potential legal risks as much as possible.
It would add fuel to the fire if AC said something along to the lines of "Our pilots were involved in a potentially disastrous event"

1. We realize that an event has occurred involving our company;
2. It is being investigated by XXX and by our senior staff;
3. Any Lessons Learned will be communicated to the appropriate members of our staff and any recommendations for improvements will be implemented as soon as practicable; and
4. We will keep you updated on developments.
Crisis Control Communications can start early if the above points are sent out instead of taking a "nothing to see here, move along folks" approach.

This sums up my thoughts on this matter well.

"Humans are humans ... so long as they are involved incidences like these will occur. It is in our nature, pilots aren't a special breed who were born without flaw.
And they were the first to be aware of their error from what the tape suggests. They were alert when it counted and therefore were able to avert a disaster ... what is the issue?"

Isn't one of the purposes (beyond the redundancy should one leave this mortal coil or go crazy) of two pilots being that one can point out what seems puzzling if the other misses it?
Such as "say look our runway looks awfully congested".

Avherald has added estimated distances from aircraft on the taxiway (no source cited).
It is estimated that AC-759 overflew the first two aircraft by 100 feet, the third by about 200 feet and the last by 300 feet. The closest lateral proximity between AC-759 and one of the aircraft on taxiway C was 29 feet. The NTSB is investigating the occurrence.
