Granddaughter forced to sit in her own pee after being barred from using the business class washroom. When she tried using it for the second or third time.

Shame on AC again and again terrible on board matron attitude.

So between reaching cruising altitude and half-way in the flight, which means an interval of what, 2 hours, they needed to go 2 or 3 times and got denied.

Its clearly very uncool for the girl who wet herself. But i feel it wasn't unreasonable from the FA to ask that they stop using the J after going 3 times in 2 hours. I mean its OK to make an exception and let a little girl who really needs to go use the J lavs, but after how many of these "events" do you enforce the rule and ask that they use the Y ones?

And if there was really a booking agent who recommended those seats "for proximity to the lavatory", this was clearly wrong and set a bad expectation in the first place for the passengers.

Just another rant about how bad service can be aboard... what a shame that policies get enforced... LOL

The mother said "closest". Maybe Granny never flew before to understand that there are lavs for each class of service or maybe she did not want to escort her to the econ lavs??

I don't think it's right for Y pax to use the J lavs continuously throughout the flight, but in this last case it sounds like the service cart was blocking the aisle to the rear lavs! Shame, shame, shame on AC and the FA enforcing the rule!! If this happened to my daughter I would be absolutely furious!

It is an unfortunate incident but is it just me or does anyone else think the grandmother is pushing it for asking for a full refund?

The article doesn't make it clear if it was an AC agent or an independent travel agent. Either way the agent should have known the policy of not letting Y pax use the J lavs. They should have been put in the back near the rear lavs.

It's a shame that the FA got fed up and stopped bending the rules for a three year old. It's a shame that the kid was given so much to drink that she had to go every hour. It's a shame that the FA's using the service cart didn't back up to the rear galley to let the kid go to the rear lav in a potty emergency. It's a shame that the grandmother didn't pack a change of clothes in the carry on.

The biggest shame is that they put a picture of the kid with her name in the article. Will she be taunted 2-12 years from now as the kid who wet herself on an airplane? I'm still bothered by the lack of anonymity on today's internet.

Agree and while they've grumbled about doing it I've seen FA's accommodate pax by pushing the cart to the nearest galley to let them by. I wonder how strenuously this option was tried as the article doesn't really say.

What was wrong with the other lavs?? If you want Business Class amenities, buy a Business Class ticket.

It is unfair to all the other pax in Business Class who lose their less busy, exclusive lav if they start allowing everyone in the back to use it.

I'm sure if she had explained to the FA working the cart that it was an emergency and her granddaughter needed to use the restroom, they would have pulled the cart up past their seats to allow the adult/child to pass.

But.... another reason to ban children from aircraft.

That's what really bothered me. Is the price of an economy ticket refund really worth exposing this kid to a lifetime of bullying? If grandma didn't have the common sense to protect the child's identity, perhaps the CBC should have a policy on such things. Why don't people think anymore?

Maybe grandma was plying the kid with beverages to provoke just this eventuality to get the ticket refunded.

If one wants to use the business class toilet, buy a business class ticket.

If one needs to go to the toilet frequently during the flight, pay the extra $ to reserve a seat near the toilet.

Why should an economy class passenger be allowed to use the business class toilet?

To avoid them urinating in their seat, presumably.

These two passengers should have been seated toward the rear of the aircraft, not the front. The booking agent made a mistake. The grandmother made a poor decision by not asking the FAs to move the cart so her granddaughter could use the lav in the back.

Ultimately the grandmother is to blame... the rear lav was available and she opted to not use it. But hey, it's trendy to blame carriers for passenger mistakes right now, so why not?
