Now the vote was to accept the buy of aeroplan from AIM, AC can start to move aeroplan in-house under their control. When that is complete, AC can announce they are really really late in their development of their own Attitude system, and decided to scrap that, and just go with aeroplan system.
The cost of developing their own Attitude system, and to transition aeroplan into Attitude (and facing the uproar of all the problems/devaluations/outages/glitches will be too much), it's easier to just continue with aeroplan.
Easier to let go of the 1.3 developers they hired for the Attitude system, than to deal with transitioning ae to a raw/problematic Attitude system.

LOL. These are valid points also....of course none of us know yet. I like to hope that they will be ready as promised in 2020 with a new roll out given how much time they have had....But only time will tell

There are only so many nobs to turn and so many competitors to be inspired by. The technical details may be tricky, but the marketing materials and cost/value analysis could be done in a week.

The sale is now final, the AC press release has one piece of news - confirming AMEX is likely to be part of the program along with CIBC and TD

So there are 27 Star Alliance members, what other 13+ partners will AC redeemers have access to?

I think it refers to all the existing Aeroplan air partners today. Check the Aeroplan website and under flight partners and you will see around 40 airlines in there, including Bearskin Airlines, Air Creebec, etc.

I just got the e-mail too and am very concerned with this tidbit:
"The best reward value for Air Canada flights, plus unparalleled access to travel on over 40 partner airlines, including the global Star Alliance network"
This implies to me that there will be a big devaluation of Star Alliance rewards.

"The best reward value for Air Canada flights, plus unparalleled access to travel on over 40 partner airlines, including the global Star Alliance network"
why is every one interpreting that to mean
"The best reward value for Air Canada flights, plus unparalleled access to travel on over 40 partner airlines, including as lesser partners member of the global Star Alliance network"
as opposed to
"The best reward value for Air Canada flights, plus unparalleled access to travel on over 40 partner airlines, which of course is inclusive of the global Star Alliance network, who we have extra special deals with"

Only thing I read into that 'announcement' is that they might let you exchange a mountain of points at OLCI for an empty I seat if you're on a revenue reservation. Or similar variations thereof.
I suspect when everything is said and done, it won't be anything more than a coat of paint on the existing Aeroplan program.
