Question Is there a disadvantage to booking flights with AC vacation instead of just AC?

I was looking at Business class flights for December with AC from YXY to PTP
(I know it's not a true Business class with Rouge of with the Jazz planes)

Is there a disadvantage to booking with flights AC vacation instead of just AC?

I'm not interested in a package except maybe adding a Car at PTP and a hotel at YUL for the layover.

When I put my flight info in the regular AC site the total is $5842
but if I use the exact same flight info on AC Vacation it's around $5320

If you ever need to phone ACV be prepared for hours and hours on hold...it is not like calling AC reservations or Aeroplan. It is infinitely worse.

you know how in Doctor Strange he can manipulate time, well so can Air Canada Vacations' call centre. Time loops are the worst!

I think if you book through ACV you don't get AQD (you do get AQM). Not sure if this applies to flights only, but definitely the case when you buy a "package" including hotel. If AQD are important to you, best to phone and verify.

Is that something new? I bought a package (flight + hotel) from ACV before, and the flights definitely accrued AQM.

I had an ACV package in January and also received AQM and AQS. There was no AQD tho (it still lists as pending but I read somewhere it is not eligible)

So far the pros and cons are

Pros:
cheaper than just buying the flights through AC
Still receive AQM & AQS

Cons:
Long wait times for call center

If I encounter any issues I cannot call AC but must call ACV correct?

The wait times for Air Canada Vacations can be worse that those of Aeroplan, and there is no known priority phone number to skip the ACV call wait line.

with ACV it is usually a deposit up front and final payment a certain # of days prior to your trip. So less $ up front.

BUT if you cancel your trip you can't reuse the tickets against a new air canada flight... basically non-ref no changes permitted, within a certain # of days prior to departure.

The deposit is certainly an advantage .... I'll have to look at the cancellation policy closer

Standard Cancellation Policy

45 days or MORE prior to departure $250 CAD per person*
44-21 days prior to departure 50% of total price*
20 days or LESS prior to departure 100% non-refundable**
*Cancellation fees are liquidated damages to compensate Air Canada Vacations for prepayments made on advance booking of travel services, and for administrative costs involved in processing a cancellation.

And with ACV there is no 24 hour cancellation at no charge policy the way there is with a regular AC flight.

My mistake - I meant to write AQD but the brain didn't connect well with the figners. Will fix.

I suspect there is if you're booking 7+ days out and you're flying to or from the US
