Why does someone need to manage the swing? In case they fall off?

On a more relevant note, I think many of you are deluded as to pay in the hospitality and travel industry. I'm on the board of several hospitality businesses and this hourly pay rate (for entry level, albeit an important customer-facing position) is perfectly normal. Whether it is right/wrong, or whether there is an implicit assumption that this is one wage of a two-earner household is another matter.

Don't have the numbers in front of me, but the point is AC could easily pay a living wage if it wanted to.

Other departments (like cargo) start out at roughly double for customer service, and I don't think a Concierge is/should be an entry level position. One could argue that's what the unions agreed to, but that's cop out leadership.

On the one hand $14/hour is minimum wage, but on the other hand there are a slew of other benefits that come with this job posting that other minimum wage earners do not get.

Still though, Air Canada wants to hire bilingual folks who are allegedly customer obsessed for minimum wage? Seems like a stretch to me.

Not an unusual wage for a babysitter or worker in a long term care or seniors facility.
DrunkCargo, rickg523 and jasdou like this.

It could be worse. Rouge FAs get the same ... but are only paid for when they're in in the air, actually working (as opposed to deadheading home on the same plane)

They could have a very significant sliding scale. Or that could just be the training wage

I remember there has been a thread, or a discussion in the Lounge thread, roughly two years ago.

Will try to find the link.

I think it was discussed at length.

IIRC, they get paid $14/h for the first year, with +$0.50/year and cap out at $20/h or something.

I think AC ramp staff gets $13. Considering the work they do in 40C and -40C, you really have to have balls of steel.

Min wage in Ontario is 14/hr across the board by the way.

Can someone tell me exactly how Air Canada has the highest operating cost environment in the world (as per most measures of CASM) if their staff are being paid this little?

Probably worth discussing in another thread because clearly Air Canada concierges are not the cause of said CASM being what it is.
