eUpgrades Available VS You Will be Waitlisted

I booked a return flight on Rouge today to San Diego. Some of the fares listed in the Flex column are marked as "You will be waitlisted" and others said "Seats Available for Upgrade."

As a 35K member I figured that it would allow me to upgrade upon purchase if selecting a flight that said "Seats Available for Upgrade."

Upon purchase I went to use my upgrade credits and it said "Upgrades can only be requested within 8 days of flight." So, what am I missing? Maybe Air Canada should say that when i booked the flight?

Can someone shed some light on this?

In order to upgrade, seats must be available AND you need to be within your upgrade window.

The AC website only shows if seats are available. If seats are available for upgrade for a flight in 3 months, they may not necessarily be available once you are within your upgrade window.

The window for 35K is 8 days. 10 days for 50K, 12 for 75K, and 14 for 100K.

I appreciate the response and the information.

The windows are actually 4,5,6,7 days, however AirCanada has had a continuous program of "promos" due to weak J sales doubling the window.

You can instantly update a latitude fare too, so if you want to upgrade now you can uppay to a lat fare. This is normally quite expensive but there are routes where it falls about half way between (low) flex and business

Sometimes P is cheaper than Latitude and no eups needed. One gets a 50% bonus of miles, too.

This is no longer descended as a promo and there is no longer an end date on the AC website. So those times should be doubled.

I completely after only many routes, but some like YYZ-SFO are flex 500, lat 1000 and P 1400. For the morning flight.

It's only 25% more miles than latitude of course ;)

Where possibly I'll book P, but if I'm booking within or near upgrade window I'll save the $ and risk a plane change. Especially on a fully refundable ticket.
