In previous years, it seems many who were close to qualifying were swept into the higher category. I don't expect it will happen with this year with the new offers to buy status, but we will see.
$499 for 75 missing miles... ouch! I guess you can always take a flight to YYJ and the ferry back if you really wanted E35 status

Really find the new environment of profit taking from FF programs very depressing. $6.65/mile charged to a loyal customer! Seems like a punishment for failing to make 35K under their new rule rather than an incentive. By comparison I paid $0.155/mile this year.

I am curious to know how you define "loyal customer". The writer readily admitted being in this position because of a decision to choose to fly with different airlines.

I applaud a profit-seeking firm finding ways to be profitable. My loyalty can only be offered to a firm with prospects of longevity, going concern, etc... AC has been uncovering these opportunities (albeit slightly behind the industry) and continues to draw my curiosity in Altitude developments despite personal circumstances preventing my participation.

If it eeks out a YVR-YYJ flight to fill an empty seat, or C$499 for the convenience of not BIS, it offers an option for the consumer to consider. This is the season, after all, of spending a good year's rewards, at times impulsively.

63,000 AQM
5,700 AQD

Offered buy-up to E50K for $899.

Funny thing is, I flew one last qualifying flight that will put me over the 6,000 AQD a few days ago (when those AQD will show up is anybody's guess). Why is AC jumping the gun with this? Was it too much to wait until their ridiculous system posted all the AQM/AQD up to an including Dec 31st?

I am $188 short of AQD, and about 2000 short of AQM from E50K, no email from AC so far.

That's actually hilarious!!! "Let me sell you the $300 you're missing for $899."

Why not purchase a ticket that has a change or refund penalty and then just change/refund it to the tune of $300?

+1

My AQM is roughly the same and AQD slightly lower, but I can't recall the Elite 35K benefits again, if there an option to select Star Gold and forget everything else? They have sent this buy-up email twice, which makes me very suspicious that their numbers are dropping significantly for the upcoming year.

My wife just got the offer today. $499 buy up to P25. She's at 18 AQS and $2300 AQD. That's further away from p25 than I expected would be included in this offer. No real benefit overall to her since she nearly always travels with me on AC. When she travels on her own, she most often picks WS.

Because change fees don't count toward AQD?

Whether that is good/bad, right/wrong is a separate issue. BIS miles counts. Thats it.

Only base fare of actually flown segments counts. In any case, as said above, I did exceed the AQD - they just haven't posted (and, if recent experience is any guide, won't post for a couple of weeks).

Doesn't one actually have to fly for a flight to count? Perhaps I've misunderstood.
